Sitting here watching Hull vs Blackpool has made me realise how few ex-Saints we seemed to come across in League 1 last season (there were a few dotted about, like James and Lancashire, but not many) - especially considering how many currently flood the Premiership. So I thought I'd think about which players we'll potentialy be coming across in the Championship this season, and I've managed to come up with this side (I accept that not all are first team regulars). If I've missed anyone out, let me know: Paul Smith Wayne Thomas, Matt Mills, Andrew Davies, Stephen Crainey Michael Antonio, Matt Oakley, Simon Gillet Dexter Blackstock, Kevin Phillips, Brett Ormerod Martin Cranie, Brian Howard, Danny N'Guessan, David McGoldrick, Scott McDonald
Wayne Thomas has gone to play for Atromitos in Greece, same club Saga found himself at until recently. Michael Poke is still at Brighton, if he counts.
It is, yeah. I looked him up the other day and noticed he had gone, I certainly didn't expect to see Wayne Thomas playing in Greece.
yes -but not many ex managers - pearson only i think. A year ago in the championship there was Burley, Strachan and Dave Jones - all still out of work i think. as for ex players now managers there is Jim Magilton at Ipswich. LOL
I guess we'll sort of come into contact with Stuart Gray again, considering he's Pompey's new 1st team coach.
From what I can gather, Richard Wright, Callum Davenport and Nigel Quashie are currently all free agents - so I guess it's not beyond the realms of possibility that we might come up against one of them at some point.
Alex Pearce at Reading. He was one of the few loanees that we had in the Championship (but didn't subsequently sign) who really impressed me.
