Dyer linked with Liverpool switch Swansea City, 14:30, August 5, 2011 Swansea may be bracing themselves for a shock bid from Liverpool for Nathan Dyer, after clinching the signing of Wayne Routledge. It's been suggested that the Swans have moved to secure the signature of another winger as they fear losing Dyer due to a dispute over a new contract. Routledge, who has just the Premier League new boys from Newcastle for an undisclosed fee, certainly shares many qualities with his fellow wide man, but manager Brendan Rodgers would ideally like to have both players in the same team. However, the Swans can't afford to risk letting the 23-year-old walk away for nothing as Dorus de Vries and Darren Pratley did this summer, as he is now in the final 12 months of his existing deal. Rodgers was initially optimistic that Dyer would put pen to paper on a new deal, but the reported interest from Liverpool is a concern, particularly with the Reds' new policy of signing top young British talent iff true what price tag do you think will be put on him ?
he's priceless. not a player i want to see leave the club at this point. if we can get him on a good contract and then if he wants to leave in about 10 years time. then maybe i'd be ok with it.
Let's see what happens with the contract situation, could all be journalists spouting the usual bs. How can they have broken down? If they are still negotiating then there are plenty of wingers in the squad so we should just offer to match the best contract between those guys. If he wants more then he's being greedy and he'll lose every fans respect regardless of being the best player last season. If he does want to go and we do cash in before the window closes then I can't see us getting more than £2m
Dyer is at last starting to look near the finished article he just needs to get his finishing confidence up a bit with a few consistent goals per game ratios. I think hes maybe at £3M plus now as a prem winger but we certainly dont need or want to sell him unless the cover is robust enough that we can use him £ to get a seriously good GK and/or defender whilst theres still time !
I've said it before that i think Nathan is probably to lightweight for the bigger PL teams so i would be surprised if he went to Liverpool but if there is any truth to it then we would be lucky to get 2 million tops for him especially as he only has 12 months of his contract left.
A) It's probably just the same story rehashed to sell some more papers. B) We didn't sell Pratley for a million and a half with a year to go, or 6 months at least, on his contract, so there's no way we'd sell Dyer for a million now. Huw would rather lose him for nothing than accept such a derisory offer. C) Dyer will be fine in the Premiership. You watch.
Got to ask the question, why have we been so tardy YET AGAIN with contract renewals for our better players? Dyer unquestionably comes into that category so why was his contract allowed to run down to 12 months? It seems to me that Dyer should have been offered an extension last season at least. We all saw the performances that he was putting in and there was always a danger of bigger clubs, as now seems to be the case, expressing an interest. I get the feeling that there is some sort of arrogance at the Liberty in situations like this; that players will sit quietly and wait until we deem it convenient to talk about their contracts. Well, nowadays players won't and don't wait. Their agents, particularly, are always sniffing where the bigger bucks are but we don't seem to be mindful of that and continually leave ourselves vulnerable. I sense another DP and DDV situation brewing here and if we have failed to enter negotiations earlier, which I have heard nothing about, we need to take a long hard look at exactly who is handling contract negotiations at our club because these situations are disruptive and could cost us millions. Sort it out, Swans. This conduct is amateurish and inefficient in the extreme. We have enough of a job on the field this season without it all being undermined by a lack of professionalism behind the scenes.
It could be he was the victim of last seasons policy of "see how the season goes, then see where we are at the end of that". I agreed with the thinking behind the policy at the time, even if it did ultimately cost us DDV and Pratters, but I'm hopeful Nathan will follow Joeys lead and sign back on. They're both younger than the aforementioned two players, and could easily sign another contract with us before ultimately making a big money move elsewhere.
Liverpool...... Let's b honest , who the **** r liverpool. Havnt won sod all properly for years and will not win another top trphy for years too come. We r prem lge now just like them and they r one of the teams I will be disappointed if we don't take 3pts off em at liberty!
I hope for your sake that you're joking. If not, you might want to eat a spoonful of sugar, get rid of that bitterness.
Scott, I don't agree with "see how the season goes......." policy in terms of our prize assets. That's a recipe for waving them goodbye with little or bugger all in our bank account to show for it. Dyer could have been granted an extension at a higher salary with the proviso that it would be upped again in the event of promotion. As a top player for us he deserved a pay increase in any event. He probably would have accepted and he would have been our player for some time to come - a highly saleable asset. Now we are going to have to jump through hoops just to hang on to him. Ze, don't take it to heart - just a little exuberant tub thumping. Don't judge us too harshly - we are all aware of Liverpool's history - this has been a long time coming for us. We know that all the games will be toughies but we do have to be optimistic don't we?
Can't see this happening to be honest, think Liverpool would be aiming for players with a lot bigger profile, their fans will demand it
smells just like Taylor and Ash's guaranteed move to Newcastle and Serran's/Sandomierski's/Soriano's move to Swansea to me...... AGENTS DOING THEIR JOB!
While the window is open some of our better players are still vulnerable to big money offers the sooner it shuts the better, after we get a keeper etc... I think Rogers is staying though thank god As for liverpool a massive club that weve had v.good links to over the years, i just hope they are still rich enough to buy up and coming young players from established prem and top european clubs before looking at emerging clubs like ours.
If they actually want him then I want £12m for him. They paid £20m for Downing so they need to spend fairly big to get a young, quick winger that offers something different to any of their other options.
That's the problem, Chris. With 12 months to run on his contract, what we want and what we'd actually get are two very different things. This all depends on whether or not Dyer is thinking of leaving of course. I really hope he stays because I think he'll do really well this season. Bit worrying, though, all this delay when most of us believed that his signing a new contract was a formality just a few days ago.
Never a dull moment with the swans is there ivor ! i hope he makes a statement sharpish with bucks blessing not another agonising wait like the Taylor mess a few weeks ago!!
trouble is the players (and the dreaded agents) know the longer they hang out, in most cases, the better the deal will be. having said that it seems Huw takes no crap
Just shows how badly contracts have been managed over the years here ! lessons not learnt, Huw is partly to blame but im sure hes had tough choices to make and a few damned iff i do damned iff i dont moments. But he and all the rest involved have got us to the prem so iff Dyer wants to mess us about im all for Huw playing hardball with him and his agent. No body will come to our place and push us around on or off the field !
Dyer is not a Prem winger yet. In name only. If he matches last season's performances this time, then he'll be a Prem winger imo.
