Civil servants advise ministers. Each minister has a team of civil servants who have the intellect and time to research specific matters and advise the minister on policies. Do you think that MPs suddenly become experts on a sector simply because they are appointed as the minister for it? Your grasp of how politics and government works is incredibly limp.

No wonder the Sensible Party is in such disarray.

 

Pete presumably thinks the Tories are employing KMPG to make the tea.

As @steveninaster1 has pointed out. Ministers will rubber stamp the work and take the credit (or pass the buck if it goes tits up)
The bulk of the work and decision making will be done by accountants advising civil servants (the ones with no experience of complex trade negotiations)

I can't think why they are employing KMPG, Deloitte though ? 'They only cost us £100k per day, but they sure do make a nice cuppa'

Agreed totally. They all know more than people doing the job.

 

"rubber stamp"? I'm glad you are not anywhere near our trade deals. You don't have a clue.

 

Neither do the Civil Service. That's why they are employing private contractors to do the work.

The relationship between ministers, civil servants and private contractors is something I have a very good knowledge of considering that I represent my company at the government's software suppliers meeting in London every month.
