I could never ask Morgan to know his place. Nor could I ever advise him that being a bigger fish in a smaller pond is the right thing for him. Only he could decide for himself. But I'm bound to say that Jack looks to have made the right decision, whereas, of this moment, Morgan is very much in the wrong place. Unless you are the best person at your job, these things have a habit of being out of your control. And even being the best doesn't always work out.

 

These days it's all about how many players we lost the previous summer(s) and how long can we keep doing it.

Yes indeed. That does tend to be the basis of any talk about Saints, during a match, but away from the immediate action. You can see why though. If we are playing badly, the commentator can always fake a lament about the exit of key players. If we are playing well the commentator can equally fake his incredulity at our ability to carry on regardless.

On MOTD3 last week, Chappers highlighted how 'settled' Saints sail on serenely despite losing key players. I suppose while Saints keep the secret of how to do it, and that they keep on serenely sailing, the commentators will continue to fall back on their pet topic.

 

There are different levels of 'expert' incompetence though. Some seem to have got stuck on 'little, plucky Southampton' mode. Hartson (who I used to like) on Thursday seemed to be doing a bad impression of Robbie Savage, just say something a bit provocative and repeat. He was upset we'd dropped Wanyama for the Beer game, thought we'd regret it big time. Plonker. I cannot convince myself these pundits are employed and paid for their expertise, just that they once played footy and will do as scripted.

According to John Hartson yes ! Was watching the game on tv in Portugal and could hardly believe it when he came out with such an uninformed comment !

 

I wonder if our narrowness (something Ranieri commented on) will help against Mahrez or not. If we can nullify his efforts & use our fullbacks like we did against West Ham we may do well; or contrastingly leave space in the channels for Vardy...

 

Crikey, you'd expect his fellow commentator to politely correct him at least.

 

Finish my night shift in half an hour, then go home, shower and breakfast, then set off for Leicester. Two away trips this side of Christmas, very rare for me; the other one is Inter (have to pinch myself every time I say that).

It will be tough today. Leicester are Champions (it says so on my ticket). UTS

I've reverted to my standby position However, that will only be one match at a time as I have confidence that overall this will be a good season.

 

I'm sad enough to look at NewsNow for snippets that mention Saints, and I noticed that KUMB's latest match report on their 0-0 draw with Middlesbrough mentioned Saints. I clicked on the link, and the section labelled match report for their match v Boro was actually their match report on West Ham v Saints. It would seem that their own website is unable to move on from our victory

 

He didn't want VW to join us originally, saying he'd be better going to top 6 Prem side. I lost all respect I had for him then. Twat & this episode just confirms. End of.

 

I no longer bother with NewsNow as it is all bloggers looking for clicks.

 

I check Newsnow because there is no such thing as enough Saints news...I need my fix.
