Really impressed with McGovern once again. Pinto at fault for Edwards goal (moan, whinge, blather) but as an attacking force, he's right up there in the Steen Nedergaard league When I saw the fourth official hold up a board with a big 5 (five) on, I saw my whole life flash before me Oh, ye (me) of little faith
We're not alone. I noticed AN had a large damp patch on his track suit bottoms as he told Ryan Bennett to get ready to enter the fray!
Second in the league having won 5 of our last 6 games. Newcastle was a massive disappointment not so much because we lost more because we should have won and threw it away. If we had only had Klose playing instead of Bassong I think we would have won, in which case we’d be top of the league and 7 points clear of Newcastle At the start of the season I would have been more than happy with our current position and whilst our performances have often fallen well short of what the squad should be capable of we are continuing to amass points. 6/8 Blackburn 1 (22nd) Norwich 4 13/8 Norwich 0 Sheffield Wed 0 (9th) 16/8 Norwich 1 Bristol City 0 (5th) 21/8 Ipswich 1 (16th) Norwich 1 27/8 Birmingham 3 (6th) Norwich 0 10/9 Cardiff 2 (23st) Norwich 3 13/9 Norwich 2 Wigan 1 (21st) 17/9 Nottingham Forrest 1 (18th) Norwich 2 24/9 Norwich 3 Burton Albion 1 (15th) 28/9 Newcastle 4 (3rd) Norwich 3 1/10 Wolves 1 (12th) Norwich 2 The highest placed team we’ve beat is Bristol in 5th. Of the 10 games we’ve played 4 are in the top half of the league. Of these we’ve won 1, drew 1 and lost 2. We’ve played 3 teams in, the top 6 (lost 2, won 1) We’ve beat 5 of the 6 teams we’ve played in the bottom half and drew with the other (Ipswich), however being a derby the game takes on an extra dimension We seem to have been fortunate at the quality of the majority of teams we’ve played so far, however we have at least now played some of the better teams in the division. At the moment it looks like we’re going to beat teams in the lower half of the table but struggle against teams in the top 6. The next 3 Championship game are against Rotherham, Fulham & Preston all winnable games. December & January fixtures look particularly difficult and for me we never seem to get good results over Christmas so we need to ensure we collect as many points as possible during October and November.
All very interesting, CC but totally irrelevant in my book. We play every single team twice (X2) during this long slog of a season, how they come out of the hat is beyond our or AN's influence. You could equally argue that we'd never have been relegated under Hughton / Adams if the fixtures hadn't been such bitches over the last 5 or 6 games of that season but you still have to face those guys sometime
It would definitely be irrelevant at the end of the season. But say our 10 games had been against the 10 worst teams in the division and not played the 13th best. Wouldn't it be relevant then ? Guess it depends on how your mind processes information. I guess you could say that the league table's irrelevant at the moment, but we all look at it.
I see your point, but what if say Blackburn won 8 on the spin and were soon play-off contenders. Are you then going to say 'well, we've already beaten one of the top six clubs on the opening day'?
Not worthy of a new thread - OK, hands up who wouldn't have taken 3 points from the last 2 games????? #putshandsup
I think it's a pretty safe bet they won't (but you never know) after all I have been reliable told that Huddersfield won't be at the top of the league at the end of the season. I guess like any analysis the more data you get the more accurate the analysis. Anyway it's just another way of looking at things. It's a bit like game stats, yes they may have some value, but the only stat that counts is the scoreline at the end of the day.
We can't get through this season defending like we are. So many of these finish with a "phew....thank god they wasted those chances" You can't rely on that for a whole season, and you can't enter the Premiership with that!................Yet again....
I hear what you're saying FML, but on the flip side, look at the chances we spurned in the first half!!!
Indeed. Which is why in the January window, we need to bolster CB and striking options (Oliveira's first touch today gifted the ball back to Wolves!) especially if we're still in with a realistic shout of going back up. No good leaving it until we stumble over the line in May - if, indeed, we do!
....Yep We all said we need a CB to play with Klose, or hold the team together if Klose was injured again. We need a couple Strikers, we all said that too. We got 1, who plays bit parts atm. Like Pritchard who would be a game changer. So yea, you hear what I'm saying about the defence, if only we had one, but we did waste a lot of chances tho, so that's fine, (if only we bought another striker!)
