We are going to lose our best attacking threat in Mane together with our best defensive option in Matip at a critical time. IMO, we can't afford to lose either as there are no obvious replacements that can offer what they can.

Perhaps we'll manage a couple of early signings in January....we'll need them <ok>

yeah i'd heard Matip was leaning towards not going to ACON due to his previous injury woes.
we will miss Mane badly on current form

Hopefully we cover the loss Jan window.

What's the priority though if we don't have funds to cover what we need.

Hopefully Klopp has a plan for the ACON. I carnt see us signing a player to cover manes absence for a month, its not exactly going to come as a surprise.
We can not rely soley on mane, not just the cup but injuries suspensions ect.

Given the choice between having Matip or Mane available, I'd probably opt for Matip tbh

Yes I agree. Someone always seems to step up in attack when we need them, doesn't happen in defence though.

We have options in attack that we don't seem to have in defence

Scoring brings a lot more glory than stopping shots which is probably why Moreno's far more interested in one and not the other <laugh>

Don't you think as well that defence in general has always played second fiddle to attack, all the glamour players are attackers, funny really because getting the defence right is so much more important imo.

Would rather keep Mane. Matip is a good player but he alone can't save the defence. It's still ****.

Losing Mane's pace would be a massive loss. Still believe we'll go back in for Pullisic or another pacey wide man.

Not necessarily. It means we switch things around a bit and that could work in our favour.

Our defence is much better with Matip in it. We have Coutinho, Firmino, Studge and Origi for the attacking roles if Mane is missing

Losing one player could derail your season? that would be a shocking state of affairs. I think you have a bit more about you than one player.

Imagine if you lost Rashford. Who would bail out Mourinho's failed signings and tactics?

Without Mane we will have to settle for wins by smaller margins :(

We have attacking options but none are similar to Mane ie fast wide man.

Whilst Matip has impressed, we're still poor defensively. We're just scoring more goals and winning games which just masks it.

Swansea had 3-4 top chances to score from yesterday. Awful marking and keeping contributed towards that.

All in all, I would sooner tamper with a poor defence than with a top class attack.

As far as the defence goes I think people are being too harsh, there are problems there no doubt but they are not terrible and seen to be building an understanding, with Klavan we have very good cover at CB. Set pieces is out big issue but again I feel that will improve with training and time.

As far as ACON goes I agree with most we can cover for Mane being out and have options but Matip is our best CB and would be missed.
