Because he spouted rubbish such as we send £350 million to Brussels every week and we could give that to the NHS. Those voters weren't very sensible either.
His classics degree didn't help him to realise that that was a lie or to foresee his 'et tu Gove' moment

 

I think the continued use of casually offensive humour by a high profile politician probably indicates a lack of common sense, don't you.
