that's 5 clean sheets in a row! (including 2 European games) I think the ginger mayonnaise munching money grabbing youth ignoring lying bastard would have approved!

Seems fair enough. I would amend his first statement though. Virgil started badly. Correct me if I'm wrong, but if had ducked out of the header in the first couple of minutes, JWP scores.. Or was it indirect.?

Yeah. Progressing from this group would be a major achievement and away draws are good.

As for the game, I only watched a bit, but would really avoid any sort of logical analysis. Away matches against random very-east-European teams are not going to be normal matches. These are new experiences for pretty much all of them and there is no need to be worried about not playing well.

I think Hojbjerg has been really good, so far. Does anyone think Pogba has been worth the money yet.? I don't know, I'm not bothered myself.

To be fair, he was fairly unnoticeable, barely made any touches on the ball and made no impact on the match.

I don't think it was going in without a touch. VVD forgot which end he was at!

Don't know which was flatter, the game or my overpriced 'coke'. Thought JWP and Virgil were the best of an average bunch. When I saw the size of some of the HBS players I thought they'd put a couple of prop forwards on. Expected us to run them ragged in the second half but they obviously we're better than they looked. One positive from the game is that Shane is one game nearer the end of his couldn't hit a barn door spell. When Claude rotates the team it's bound to be poorer than first choice selections. The time to be worried is when the first choice team plays like that. We stumble on !

If I was still a mod I would have changed the post you quoted to the one you obviously wanted to comment on. Sadly, I can only point it out these days.

One of my perks gone. ;)

I thought Romeu was the best player on the pitch.

Puel on substituting Jake Hesketh after 33 minutes: "It was a tactical problem. It's a young player and a good experience for him, but the pressure of the fans and the players he was up against were very difficult. It was important for me to protect Jake.

Fair enough....better to take him off if it was getting to him. He will learn from it. Very young and inexperienced for a tough and important game.

One that scores goals you mean? <whistle>

Been saying this sort of thing for a while though. Boufal may help of course but Tadic is playing pretty well right now so I don't know if he'll help that much.

Exactly this. The game was passing him by. Most other players were getting on the ball at some point, but poor Jake found himself a little lost.

    Good statement from Puel.

Not read any of the above, because the views probably echo mine.
Passing, movement and touch was lacking from most, so to come away with a point was about as good as could be expected.
I did wonder if the pitch hadn't been watered as much as we like to do it, so the many under hit and mistimed passes may have been due to this (clutching at straws to try and excuse the performance).
But hey, another clean sheet so not all bad.
On a side note, yesterday's edition of Pointless had 3 students from Southampton Uni and 1 from Leicester Uni. A 3-1 omen for a Sunday Saints win?

Nor are the strikers, but we let them have the goals.
