http://sportwitness.co.uk/former-qpr-star-brand-euro-flop-worse-game-career/ Former Queens Park Rangers goalkeeper Julio Cesar has been slammed in the Italian media after Benfica’s clash against Napoli last night. The Brazilian was making his 71st appearance in Europe, but was unable to prevent his side being beaten 4-2 by the Serie A side. TMW have described Cesar’s performance in the Champions League last night as one of the worst of his career. The Italian football outlet have criticised the former Brazil international for a number of mistakes, which ultimately cost Benfica the game. They lay blame with Cesar for some of Napoli’s goals, and have branded the goalkeeper a ‘Euro Flop’ for his disastrous display “Yesterday was probably the worst performance of Julio Cesar’s career. A treble winner with Inter Milan he became the protagonist of an endless series of mistakes on the pitch of the San Paolo against Napoli,” said TMW on Cesar’s contribution. Cesar signed for QPR in 2012 from Inter Milan, and came to England a with good reputation following his exploits with the Serie A side and also the Brazil national team. However, 37-year-old made just 24 appearances in the Premier League, and in his second season with the West London club he was loaned out to MLS side Toronto. Cesar eventually exited QPR in 2014 to join his current club Benfica.
Was he not signed by us shortly after Green arrived? I recall thinking it was odd at the time, two "world class" goalies in a relatively small team. I wonder who his agent was?
Since when was Robert Green world class? I thought he was a decent goalie who was prone to the odd mistake. Never in a month of Sunday's would I consider him as world class. Before Cesar arrived, I would have thought he was world class based on what I had seen of him on the tele. In hindsight, he must have been one of the worst goalies ever to play for us. He was useless at coming for crosses and his kicking and distribution were terrible. Whoever decided to offer him a contract and pay him £90K per week has terrible judgement. £140K per week for both of these goalies sums up the disgraceful waste of money that we went through at the time.
Great at Chelsea away. Villa when we lost 3-2 was about as bad a goalkeeping performance as I've seen for QPR and I saw Ademole Bankole. Cesar is one of those again that I wouldn't piss on if they were on fire.
He was great in the 0-0 draw at home against Man City in 2013. He made some excellent saves especially one from Gareth Barry and another from Silva that both looked like they were going in.
He was a decent shot stopper alright. The rest of his game was average at best and certainly not worth the wages we paid him.
The words world class were in inverted commas, although strictly, Green has 12 England caps (according to Wikipedia) so that might qualify him as world class.
Shaun Wright Philips has 36 England caps. That "might" make him world class as well? Unfortunately, the days when England Internationals were automatically world class are long gone.
Just as the days of Irish internationals being automatically Irish are even further gone........sorry Fingy, couldn't resist
We call on our diaspora and recruit our players within the rules. John Barnes, Luther Blissett and Raheen Sterling all born in Jamaica. Owen Hargreaves born in Canada, Tony Dorigo born in Australia, England have a similar history of recruiting players from other countries too. We also know that we are not world class.
