Why can't we hire a decent manager who works alongside a really talented coach. Fergie hired top coaches to work on tactical set-up for his teams. We could hire a Southgate-type to work alongside a Hoddle-type technical coach much as Don Howe was for England years. That technical coach can come from anywhere in the world and may not have to be a full-time appointment. Currently we can't find one man to do it all, so, let's do something different?
Good idea brian, but I think the FA will be looking for someone who is first and foremost honest. Being able to coach or even manage will be way down their list of desireable qualities. Non racist will be high up plus non religious after Hoddle. What ever happened to the Woy chap?
The team that he and Ron Greenwood put together in '82 was desperately disappointing - Mills, Wilkins, Mariner, Rix were all far worse than the alternatives of Perryman, Hoddle, Francis and Tony Morley. A bit more ambition and we could have got to the final. Still, I don't see the combination of moral fibre and tactical genius being widely available (especially in Englishmen) so why not appoint a Clive Woodward type manager to head up the best coach(es) available . It might just work and frankly, there's **** all else out there.
Amazing.I mentioned my thoughts on clubs overpaying players and possibly sending some clubs to the wall trying to compete.....and now we hear about the "Honourable Sam" explaining to disguised newsmen how to get up to more mischief. As a Spurs fan for 63 years,I hope the crooks are sent to prison...or worse....even Spurs management ....if they are guilty. What are they doing to our game? Remember the time when football was known as the poor mans game? Now we have people from Asia,USA and Lord knows where else taking over clubs just to boost their egos!....until THEY get bored and leave...while the real fans stay for ever. I feel lucky that I come from Tottenham and support a great team.I sometimes wonder about fans of the Accrington's of this world.Supporting their teams through thick and thin.Mostly thick and thin....and still turn up! More power to them.I hope we never lose them and hope they get their little bit of success now and then.
I always looked at Don Howe and Bertie Mee as "bad cop.Good cop". Howe,I'm sure was guilty of all that dirty stuff at Arsenal when they were there.Mee,who put on that cheerful face as the good guy. That dirty Arsenal lot would make Chelsea look like choirboys in comparison. But then I think of Revie's Leeds........
"Entrapment has won" harrumphs a greedy sod who was on £3m a year but wanted to pocket another £400k on the side.
Someone earnig 3 million a year and still not satisfied. I'll get someone from the Salvation Army to call by his house to put some soul into him....for a small charge of a 100,000.Pocket money to him,I guess!
3 million a year. That's nothing. Remember this? West Ham will have to pay Sam Allardyce a staggering £5million if they sack him, writes the Sunday People's Alan Nixon.
In other news, some good Ryder Cup buildup: http://www.bbc.com/sport/golf/37500790 "The Americans need their baying mob of imbeciles to caress their egos every step of the way," Europe's golfers need to "silence the pudgy, basement-dwelling irritants" and "smash the obnoxious dads, with their shiny teeth, Lego man hair, medicated ex-wives and resentful children". Yeah, that sums it up for me, too.
He also called them fat, stupid, greedy and classless. I can't think of an American associated with golf that fits that description...
I've been unable to find the rule that defines who can shout out 'In the hole' as soon as any shot has been played. There is always some plonker who thinks its a clever thing to do though.
