Pretty damn well on the whole. He was dismissed because he expressed some pretty odd and hurtful opinions about disabled people, but most of his football decisions were pretty much vindicated.

No. Its the new money they've brought out. Can be dragged along behind a boat and doesn't get damaged by being wet.

However, he did advise and send the odd injured player to a faith healer.

Personally, I want a football manager to have the qualities of a master tactician. This means that his brain shouldn't be entertaining subjects which have more in common with fairies at the bottom of the garden than football.

Hoddle is one of the few pundits, in my opinion, whose comments and analyses of games is usually informative, insightful and thought provoking. In other words, I'd say he has the master tactician bit down pat, if he can just wind in the weirdness a bit.

Anyone who takes the job is going to be fallible btw, because that's what human beings are.

I'll give him one thing, he knows his European formations, like 3-5-2 and such.

Basically, if it's your dream job, and one you've been working towards for years, yet you can't go two months (and one game) without doing a dodgy deal, all it says is that the reason for which it was your dream job in the first place is all about the dodgy deals and financial add-ons. I mean, who can't be happy with £3m a year? At least for two months?

The best thing about this is how financially lucrative the clean nose route would have been - how much cash he has chucked away is untrue. True punishment for Big Sam. Career-wise, he'll waltz easily into a job soon - back to Sunderland, maybe Stoke. Even West Ham for another spell. Much stronger for his experience as England manager...

I don't want Hoddle involved. I think he'd be a step backwards. He's been out of coaching for a long time and when I have listened to him during TV punditry, I find his comments out of date and really think he isn't the direction we should be going.

Yes, he was a good coach when he managed England previously but that was a long time ago. We need to look forward.

I don't hear that Archers. I can't remember which tournament, but recently I remember listening to him and thinking how detached he was from today's football. It would be typical of the FA to look backwards.

I hope the FA have carefully thought through his "settlement" and he doesn't get a massive pay out and then get his next job.

I do feel sorry for Sam because he showed real enthusiasm for the job...how an ordinary fan would feel if we were offered the job. He was betrayed in the end by his desire to mouth off and show off in a crowd. It was clear he wasn't going to take a job without FA approval, so I don't think he was on the take....or at least no different to anyone else who takes on a sideline job.

Hoddle is yesterday's man and should only be considered in a dire emergency. I believe Southgate turned down the job before Sam was hired because he didn't want to be a temporary filler in....so could be interesting how he does over the next 3 games. Shame for the U21s who were doing well under him....though perhaps he knows enough about them to consider bringing them into the main team. A certain well spoken blond lad with a hyphenated name.<whistle>

I'm guessing he didn't get so much as a thank you card. They likely have grounds not only to terminate his contract but take him to court, though I doubt they have any intention of doing the latter.

He won't have been cut off without a penny....there have been worse crimes. A mutual agreement will have been reached for a painless split...he will know where his next meal is coming from.

With all the mud being chucked around this morning, I'd like to point out how confident I am with the conduct of SFC in transfer dealings and agent fees. Like a lot of you, I've not had any concerns with the way we do business. More people may well be dragged into this over the coming weeks, and rightly so if things have not be done in accordance to the rules.

I'm entirely on your side here. Some of Hoodle's comments and insights during his recent co-commentary and punditry has bordered on illogical and sounding a bit 'confused'. At the best they are hilarious.

Move forwards not backwards - all these old 'been in the game his whole life' and 'a real football man' prove to be not very good most of the time.

I guarantee you that whomever gets this job will bring some fresh blood into the England camp and it will be someone from one of the teams he has managed. They appear to actually not watch or consider any players other than those within their immediate universe.

There isn't one I can think of that would be any good in the job.
