No, it only applies to people who want to buy a football or buy a share more than a certain % in a club. Thought its not a very stringent test because the likes of Thaksin Shinawatra, Hicks & Gillett, Vincent Tan etc managed to pass it and they were dodgy as ****.
Yes, I do. Is it an attack? Did they bundle him into the back of a van, tie him to a chair and force him to read from prepared cards? They approached him and his greed and arrogance did the rest. Let's say you are right and they just randomly try it on all the England managers...it's still not an attack..it's an approach..and the difference is the other 2 being clean didn't jump at the chance. An attack would be claiming it without getting the evidence first. No different than an undercover cop..knowing a guys a drug dealer arranging a drug deal to catch him. There's been previous rumour about Sam..I was speculating obviously but I'd bet money that he's the only one of the above they tried... Didn't they(someine) do it with greedy Svenas well? Bet they didn't try it with Bobby Robson.. Having said all that I personally see a distinct line between doing this and illegally tapping phones or paps hiding in bushes just to see you sunbathing in a private garden...etc etc..
I would say every prem player, manager, most england cricketers and othets have this tried ob. I do think the journo prob knew he had form and went for him though.... Common knowledge what he is like.
Think it's something that needs very close editorial control though...journos presenting enough circumstantial evidence to justify doing it. And a clear "in the public intetest" policy which they could stand in front of a commission and defend.
Not heard too much speculation about the other stuff the Telegraph plans to reveal. Anyone else heard anything? "The Telegraph began investigating corruption in English football last year after receiving information that specific managers, officials and agents were taking or receiving cash payments to secure player transfers. Over the coming days the Telegraph will detail how: The assistant manager of a high-profile football club accepted a £5,000 cash “bung” Ten managers were named by players’ agents as taking bribes to fix player transfers Two well-known managers discussed becoming ambassadors for the same fictitious firm as Sam Allardyce Another high-profile manager admitted his players broke FA rules by betting on their own games but he failed to report it A senior figure at a Premier League club helped undercover reporters to formulate a plan to bribe managers"
Depends what they mean by high profile. Usually its sensationalised by newspapers to reel everyone in, it'll be something like Leyton Orient. £5,000 is **** all in PL or Championship terms.
Doubtful sadly. Must be the only job where you can take the piss and still guaranteed some muppet will still employ you.
Just hope none of this **** involves anyone at our club either now or previously. Things are just starting to look on the up, it'd just be our luck wouldn't it
Great shame, I actually thought he could do something with the **** at his disposal. Stupid man for admitting what everybody knows about 3rd party ownership on film and for agreeing "in principle" to make an investment (even though he said it would have to be approved by the FA first). I suppose the press can get the right answer from anyone if they try hard enough.
Does he still get a bazillion quid for getting sacked like most managers do... Even though he only managed for one game.
