I do indeed. Delivered to your doorstep, in our case every Friday. Used to get a crate in at Christmas as well, I think they did something like a pineappleade which was always that last one to get supped.
Anybody remember Mr Wigby's mobile grocer's shop. Little steps up to the back and then basically a corner shop on wheels. Poor bloke. We must have nicked half his stock.
Yeah, It was Sportscraft. Loved that shop. It had a downstairs and was always packed. Sold tons of 'Standard' fireworks, in the run up to bonfire night.
I once ate at an upscale restaurant in Paris with a rather worldly-unwise work colleague. He complained that his gazpacho soup wasn't hot enough and then that his steak tartare wasn't cooked through. When we got back to Manchester airport, he'd left his car lights on so needed a jump start. He then ran out of gas 20 miles from home. That trip was a right laugh!
I remember Arthur, in the 50's we used to have to play monopoly in his house so he could learn how to handle the cash
He was a nice guy, he used to sit me on a wooden bar across his barber chair and tell me there was a mouse on the floor when he wanted me to look down. I fell for it every single time. My Dad used him for 30 years, even when we first moved up to Scotland, he would still coincide visits to my Grandma so that he could get his hair cut from your Dad!
Yes. Three mile cycle ride to Hedon Road, then EYMS bus to Hull, then Corporation trolley bus along Anlaby road. Then of course reverse back home. Must have been quite a sight on field days traveling from Inglemire lane. And to keep on topic, remember Miles motor cycles near the rail crossing and Riley High on Anlaby road (where the fly over is now)
You are probably correct as it does seem to ring a bell, though it does appear a strange name for a Toyshop..... I remember getting my Super Flight Deck from there..... Now that was a proper Toy....
Used to meet my pals at the Kardomah for coffee every lunchtime when I worked in Hull at Reckitts in the early 60's.
Used to get my suits made at Mannys in the early 60s. He was just off Beverley Road if its the same one.
Back in time I went to a farewell meal with fellow students following completion of a postgraduate course in London. At a reasonably posh restaurant in the West End I ordered steak tartare ( almost the dearest item on the menu) having never heard of it before but expecting a cooked steak dish. Amazed what turned up and while the rest tucked into their meal I managed 1 small mouthful of the raw steak before feeding on the lettuce leaf.
Good call, I can picture one of the workers who delivered on NHE a mate of my brothers, he was into rock music / biker lifestyle but his name ???
My Grandpa and Grandma used to take we in there on a Saturday morning when I was a child. Always remember the lovely smell of the coffee.
