I used to work there as well, down Dairycoates Lane. I was a buyer in the 80's and moved on just before he sold out to Jacksons. I was never convinced that Harry could actually see over the steering wheel.......
Stardisc - great record store, my mate's sister Judith used to run one of other of the 3 on a rotational basis.
Used to get my Hymers uniform from Johnsons. The Blazers were always a deeper red than thise from Clarke's for some reason. I think I was the only one with a blazer from there. Probably cheaper...
Who remembers all the cheap clothes shops on road , they all sold knock off Italian and French jumpers in the most elaborate design of the day . We used to call them paki shops without a hint of malice or ill intent .. Remember getting the arra stretch from down there .
Furmans Shoes for the goth footwear and keeping with the Goth theme there was a clothes shop down George Street called 69a i think.
Good to hear that mate. My old man wouldn't dream of going anywhere but Dave's. Must have cut his hair for decades, my last cut at his place was probably '89, just before I left Hull for a few years. I bet he was the last place going in Robank.
I graduated from Stan Leeman's to the Paragon Station barber. The old geezer had a sideline painting peoples pets, and he was the brother of Eric Fenby, who transcribed Delius' late period music (when the composer was ****ed by syph and could no longer play).
