Why did he have the meeting? Hodgson didn't have it, McLaren didn't have it, Capello didn't have it...
Why shouldn't he have had the meeting? when pressed on the elements which would have seen him make additional money he clarified that he'd need to get anything OK'd by the FA, so it's not like he was making dodgy deals, just discussing options and general things within football.
No matter which way you wrap it up, it's all a bit dodgy and unnecessary from Allardyce. He may not have committed a crime but I don't think it's something the England manager should be getting involved in or at least get caught doing.
During the conversation Allardyce at one point reacts to the suggestion of direct payments to managers and players (to grease the wheels and get them to buy a player or ask for a transfer or whatever) by saying, 'you can't talk about that in front of me' (because what the man is discussing is illegal) and then adds 'you'll have to wait until I've left before you discuss that'. This shows he was willing to work for a company that he knew was offering bungs to people in the game. IMO he has to go. The taped conversation makes him seem like a ****ing plank anyway. No great loss.
