I don't like Sam Allardyce. I never have. I admired what he did at Bolton but it ends there for me. I believe the FA wanted him at the time they appointed the chap with the brolly but the Panorama program just threw up too big a dirt cloud. I have also heard (and posted about it a few years back) about some other "dodgy" practices he may have been involved with. So, I'm not a fan. However, I read the article quickly and there seemed a lot of half sentence quotes. Is this because they are saving the really juicy bits or because the full context of the conversation isn't quite so damning? Just a thought. Yes he put himself in a silly position and said some things that maybe he should have kept quiet on, but apart from the "dodgy feel" about the situation, have I missed something very bad he's done here? . Did I just partially defend him? I need to sit down! Regardless, I'm with Missing Lambo on him!!
Rich person in bending the rules shocker... In all seriousness though, aside from rights and wrongs, how ****ing thick do you have to be...
It should be illegal to show someone up for what they are? If Allardyce had given them nothing, there would be no story. He did, his fault and he should know better... which prompts the question, that if he's this flagrant, what else has he "got away with".
I'm sure you are a model citizen with nothing to worry about. *have you still got the code for the stationery cupboard door?*
That isn't what he was saying. He was talking about owning the agent in that then the manager and the agent share signing on fees. It wasn't about buying out the agent's stake in the player. The club would not be buying out a stake because the stake would in reality not be on paper. The Agent's fees (including ongoing image rights earnings) would substitute what used to be the shared ownership part. I suspect that there would also be agent's fees written into the contracts ongoing and therefore money would be filtering back out all the time. Modern day brown envelope stuff. Every time a "senior player" that is on the manager's side moves clubs that agents fee plus the silly wages would send more money both to the manager and the agent. This is why they have been after Allardyce for a long time. Making players change to the favoured agent. Ravel Morrison was only at West Ham for a while and he was public about being harrassed by "a senior player" and the manager to change to a "preferred" agent. Shared ownership was banned as being "slave labour" in that the courts ruled that a person cannot be part owned by someone else. The person must have full control of permissions etc. The player must be the one that can make the decisions and not be ruled by someone else having a say over it. So even though it is under the cover of the agent. It is fine when the agent is working for the player but the player is making the decisions but in what has been talked about the player does not have 100% control.
He has to be sacked purely on the principal that he represents the FA and country as a whole. We can't cry about Blatter and Platini and then ignore it when one of our own is involved in similar "suspect" scenarios.
Well, yes, in most cases. As an employee of the NHS I was subject to "secret shoppers" as they were called. Someone pretending to be a client or relative would test the competance and ethical probity of my practice. There were many critisisms of this, usual 'yuman rights' and privacy issues raised, strangely only by those we suspected to be a little 'light' in such areas. Sam is Sam. The FA most likely gave him the job because he is a little old school. But he's doing a job in the real world, in this day and age, so should be behaving appropriately. It seems he's not.
Will the FA have the bollocks to sack him though, i'm predicting a misunderstanding/error of judgement statement being released.
I can't see them being able to do that. In this day and age, especially after the FIFA scandal, these organisations have to be seen to be squeaky clean. England especially because we have been one of the most vocal over the past decade about FIFA and Blatter!!!. I can't see Sam being in position by the weekend. Give the job to Nigel. I want to hear about buses, blue lines and the man in the glass to brighten up dull England performances. "Do you feel under pressure Nigel." "Pressure makes diamonds, Gary, Pressure makes diamonds."
I hope your right, i would love Howe to be appointed and for the FA to come out and say that this is a long term project he's on a 10 year contract, even if he does it on a part time basis would be good. I like many others have lost complete interest in England however if i could see a bit of thought from the FA in actually having a plan for the future rather than keep going from 1 disaster to another then my interest in the national team would come back.
You know it will be a snap decision of usual suspects. An FA and media "Dream Team" of Shearer, Neville and Sutton so that their pals on the pundits sofas can fawn over the prospect before they go down 0-2 in a friendly against Easter Island's B team.
I'm not sure I want Sam sacked. Can't we let him lose a game first, otherwise he'll go with a 100% win record as England Manager....
As much as I do not like that man, not having to work with him every day might be better for his players. Howe for me though.
