Used to do that Friday nights. I could skate mind. Triple Salchow. Flips, Axel, Loops. The lot. Also the long liney thing when the ****er at the end smashes into the barrier to the high amusement of everyone else. All whilst full of cheap tinned lagar and chips. Dropped off at the end of Endyke Lane at about 1.00am. Walk a lass home. Walk home yourself. Up for football at 7.00. Oh, and bus trip back. The best bit without a doubt.
The Anlaby chippy was the last shop at the opposite end to Grandways. They used to sell scallops (slices potato, not shellfish) for almost nothing.
Playing fields next to Riley school- luxury! When I was there at the Boulevard the playing fields were miles away at Inglemire Lane.
Loved Picadish. Me Nan used to take us of a Saturday. Fizzy float. A scoop of ice cream in a glass of orangeade or whatever. Mince and tatties. The mince so thick that it was, well, as thick as mince. Oh, and I reckon I was well into my thirties before it dawned on me that Picadish was a kind of pun name for a self service restaurant. I never realised that. It was just a name to me.
Yes I can see it but I can't remember it's name - it was probably called Anlaby Fish and Chip Shop.... Did it turn straight into a burger joint or was it something else in between?
When I was at Marist College, whilst having 2 football pitches, we often went to the Inglemire lane pitches. Not too long a walk though.
that's it - remember watching Thunderbirds are Go there - must have been late 60s - there was also Tower and Regent opposite each other - can't believe how mant cinemas there were - think there was a Dorchester as well
Is that what's now St Mary's College? They have some decent sports facilities - did some coaching badges over the summer at St Mary's.
Ours was a trek similar to BMB's - it was a coach ride from Trinity House to Willerby Road once a fortnight to play football and do outdoor sports.
One of my greatest social faux pas'. Ordering Scallops in a restaurant then complaining that they were a bit fishy. You can take the lad out of 'Ull...
I believe so. When I was there it was on Cottingham Road, next to Waddingtons and hadn't linked up with the girls' equivalent. Met them once a year for a dance.I cringe recalling dancing with a male partner getting ready for it. Also. remember crawling over crates of hides in their rear yard to retrieve footballs.
Yes it was definitely just known as Asbestos which seems a bit wierd now. I used to save my xmas and birthday money and bought my first set of golf clubs one by one from there. Dunlop Blue Flash.
Hydes was down Hessle Road. Never tried their pies. They where actually butchers. I went to school the the son. Probably him who ****ed ot all up and caused them to close
A coach ride- luxury. For me it was public transport or bike often covered in mud after playing as there were no washing facility except for a small sink.
