Try looking at last seasons results again. At one point we were pretty much top of the form league from January onwards. We're going through a difficult period at the moment and straight away the the knives are out for our manager. Get a new manager in and sack him as well. Pathetic.
Pathetic is how I'd describe the majority of our performances under Guido. That's why I never wanted him to stay on in the summer. Also as for results, we picked up a good chunk of those points when Curtis was on the touch line.
It's nothing to do with me being happy..... I said that the players did well despite the Manager. In other words, the players rose to the occasion yesterday as they did against Chelsea. Where were the plaudits in the press, on MoTD after the Hull match? Where were the plaudits after the Southampton match? Guido was in charge of both those fixtures? For me, the difference is that the players picked their game up when playing Chelsea & Citeh. You appear to say that yesterday's improved performance was down to Guido - I believe it was because the players were up against a big club.
Try watching MOTD and reading the papers. Yes, Guido was in both matches - and you REFUSE to give him any credit for what amounted to a very good performance on Saturday. The sustained negativity to Guidolin from a few of our posters is killing this forum
Looks like we will have to agree to disagree. A forum is a place to debate - it would be pretty boring if we all wrote & thought the same. As for sustained negativity, on the "Guidolin" thread, 27 posters have responded to the poll. 14 think he should go, 11 undecided & 2 think he should stay. As such, it is hardly surprising that the overall tone towards his tenure is negative. I would "love" Guido to turn it around, but on balance, I'm not convinced he can. On that thread I wrote "As I mentioned on the Southampton Match Thread, arguably Guido deserved to be appointed on a permanent basis given our points return under him last season (I know that there is a strong case for allocating a proportion of those points to Curt). With the opportunity of bringing in his own players and a full pre-season to prepare, I thought it reasonable to expect us to kick on and challenge for a Top 8 - 10 spot. However, we have regressed. The formation against Chelsea was an abject failure & the performance against Southampton was dreadful - I really am sick to death of his Rorke's Drift style of play. If we are going to lose, let's go down bloody fighting ..... Additionally, and rightly or wrongly, it seems that he has lost - or is losing - the dressing room. Monk (& Williams?) can't be blamed this time around. The truth of the matter is that 8 months ago no one on this board - or the entire fan base - wanted Guidolin in charge - for one we had never heard of the guy. Yes - he played a part in keeping us up last season. However, virtually every team is stronger this year (yep - even Stoke who are bottom) yet we (at best) have stood still. As such, the question to be asked has to be "is Guidolin equipped to keep us in the PL come the end of the season?" On balance, I would suggest not." Anyway, with rumours that (representatives of) the Yanks are due to meet Giggs, it seems the debate on this forum re Guidolin may now be short-lived.
Totally agree BUT....the planets are lining up against Guidolin with the tough schedule, Williams leaving and new strikers trying to find their way. .I feel we are in a bit of trouble with Guidolin right now , but I see it getting much better if he is left till Christmas BUT... not going to happen ..Huw will pick the perfect opportunity to sack Guidolin , probably end of October .
Not in every game. There have been plenty of examples when this isn't the case but you blindly refuse to accept them.
Of course it's a place to debate. I'll criticise Guidolin when he deserves criticism and I'll give him credit where he deserves it. That appears something you and a lot of people on this forum are incapable of at the moment. The Liberty Stadium gave their verdict on Saturday - it's a shame this place can't do the same.
Give me examples then, especially from this season, excluding City. Poor v Burnley, rubbish v Hull, pathetic v Southampton.
From where I was sitting, it was the players who were the recipients of the crowd's plaudits. If you would like to check the Chelsea Match Thread, you will see that I gave Guidolin praise for having the balls to hook Taylor before HT....... He recognised that his changed system had failed and corrected it.
No - I believe the improved performance was down to the fact that we were playing a "Big" Club. Even the Man City guys were saying the players played well....... Why is it that the 2 best performances so far have been against Chelsea & Citeh? If the Chelsea performance was down to the Manager, why couldn't the players sustain it against Southamton?
I think he's got lucky there, realised that Leon is our best CM and had no choice other than start him. It's also his tactical changes. Saturday was crying out for Monty, Barrow and Baston at 1-1. As usual he waits until it's too late to make changes.
I was at the Burnley game and we played quite well, suffering from the poor decisions of the ref who wouldn't penalise them when they persistently chopped Barrow and when they systematically chopped us down on every counter attack. Burnley beat Liverpool 2-0 the following week We dominated Hull for an hour, before they pulled a sucker punch and caught us out. A disappointing defeat, but against a team who defeated Premier League champions Leicester City the week before and frustrated multi-million pound Man Utd for 93 minutes a week late. This is the result that sticks in peoples throats. If we had won it we would be mid table now. Itv wasn't to be. Leicester was a shambles, but we were still in the game in the 92nd minute, unlike our previous two visits to Leicester. At Southampton we were battered, as we were on our previous two visits to St Marys, the first of which we won the game by a Shelvey thunderbolt. The Chelsea and Man City games have shown we can compete with the top teams. As far as I'm concerned the team hasn't even settled yet. We haven't had the luxury of our star striker, we sold our Club Captain and top goal scorer, while Siggy hasn't had a proper break since the Euros. The Man City game showed that we are starting to settle. It showed what good football we can play. We have a manager with more tactical nous than all the potential wannabees put together - and he's operating under the constraints of huw Jenkins. But what the hell, kick him out and get a man in with four Premier League games experience who shags his brothers wife.
Pep didn't because they were on the front foot. It was inevitable they'd score the second if changes weren't made and as usual he waited until they scored.
