    That's an interesting point.
thats subjective and can't be measured.
I just hope they give a breakdown of how much all these artists charge for their performances. As the actual people of hull needed to make it a success are going to be volunteers or work minimum wage in bars.

Hull is currently getting more positive national exposure than it's ever got before, that's not just measurable, it's obvious.

I'd say the growing positivity among locals is equally obvious.

    Naughty, naughty....
You have tweaked my post and extrapolated it to say something I never said, and I suspect you know this.
Can Rosie Millard find a way to engage with hardcore Preston Roaders?
What type of cultural activity will that take?
Should Rosie and co just put on the events in town, and say 'Take it or leave it, it's up to you?'

Completely agee with your last sentence. The phrase 'you are just being negative' is powerful when used in a group situation when others are being hoodwinked but one can see through the deception.

Isn't a lot of that down to the modest success of Hull City and Hull FC and the national coverage that brings rather than the City of Culture ?

I wonder if it also visited earlier than 68 as that doesn't fit my admittedly vague memory. By 68 I was into paper rounds and a Saturday job and not following trainspotters; whatever the case it certainly sparked some interesting memories.

I would hope the volunteers are capable of making their own informed decisions and the bar workers would be working bars anyway, or looking for bars to work.

It's a tad negative and unfair to use the COC in the minimum/living wage debate; it can't directly affect that but it can other things, such as how Hull is judged.

Those few words have conjured up a vivid picture of how hard it was on the railways back then. Made me think about how easy some of us have it today. Railwaymen, Trawlermen, Miners etc put many of the whining bastards of today to shame. Thanks.

Is it? You been round long hill north Bransholme etc and done a poll?

It's a bit like all the hype forthe Olympics, and not a negative word canbe said about it. Then later it all hits home how much it cost where all the money went and the ****ing mess left.
This won't be anywhere as bad as that but all the money is going to be spent on out of town performers, the majority won't go further than prinny ave or fruit market area.
See how many perform at branny center. Ope community center, on great field or Bilton grange.

How much national coverage do you think FC gets? Pages about football, quite a lot of rugby union, especially when internationals are on, with a quarter of a page tucked away a few pages in if they are lucky,
Outside of the M62 corridor 95% of people are unaware about rugby league. Last night's game was on SKY2 whilst Preston v Wigan was on SKY1.

Both Hull teams are covered in the National press and other media. The point I was making is the positivity in the city currently is more to do with sport. Talk to people about City of Culture to most (not all) and the first thing that's mentioned is orange barriers and the disruption. Yes I know sport is part of culture.

Buy a national paper and look for the coverage of RL. Most people don't get that far into the paper and even if they do it is that small they are likely to miss it.

Strange, despite the success both F.c and City are not getting good crowds. FC won't have averaged 12,000 in what could have been their most successful seasons and .City's are not getting the interest there was previously in the PL, though we know the reasons for that. So .I wouldn't say there is an atmosphere of positivity pervsdingbthe City as regards sport. There are similar sized, and smaller, cities thanHull attracting larger crowds, at least as far as football is concerned. FC are always up on the rugbyncrowds list as half the teams they play come from places with a population the size of Bransholme.

Almost every foreign journalist arriving by train on Wednesday for the CoC launch answered, when asked, that they knew of Hull because of Hull City being in the Premier League.
