What a clever and witty insult - did you think that up all by yourself?

I personally just like reasoned and logical arguments as opposed to illogical, bigoted ones

Fundamentally, armchair, we are in agreement.
The idea of moving to a country that speaks a foreign language and making no attempt to learn said language is ****ing dumb.
I know Bengali guys who I went to school with, whose parents have been over here for 35-40 years and they still don't speak English, its madness.
But enforcing compulsory English lessons and expecting these people to pay it all back would not work.
Half of them wouldn't be able to pay it back, and the half who did, it would just make it harder for them financially to make a new life in the UK.
It would still cost the UK government one way or another.

You want to live in the UK you learn to speak English, even if its a token payment from them, at least they will learn the language and a bit of British culture as well and it will give jobs to some Brits.

Hmm, if someone comes to work in the UK and their work includes the expertise of their mother tongue then it's not overly important. Learning a language isn't a barrier and if fully committed it makes integration easier. I'm working in another country and taking lessons to speak & write but I guess it's down to the individual and what you want to achieve.

At the end of the day, if someone wants to move here and doesnt want to learn the language or integrate into our culture and wants to live in a little insular community with only people of their own, I couldn't give a flying **** to be honest, as long as their life choice doesn't have a negative impact on mine....then each to their own.
Though again, i will reiterate, I think thats very close minded and dumb of them.

The issue comes when they need access to local and national services.
There is a part of me that feels we should not make not learning english to easy by translating or providing translators to help and if you want to be that insular then you need to obtain your own translation or accept lessons in English.
