Self-conscious culture is a big turn off for most folk round here. It will be interesting to see who blinks first, the public or the organisers. Some of the advertised 'events' might as well be hosted in a phone box as they have minimal appeal or relevance. The whole idea is to present a wide variety of events, but there may come a point where the public will conclude someone is taking the piss with certain shows/exhibitions, and that it's just a scam for Tarquin and Pandora to put on their CVs. I wonder which entertainer(s) will get out the city centre comfort zone into the real Hull and manage to engage?

Just got myself a ticket to the John Williams concert. Only about a dozen seats left, all singles dotted about. Couldn't get SFM tickets, but not the end of the world, the Williams concert was what I really wanted most. And, there'll be more stuff throughout the year, they've only announced a fraction of it.
National BBC took the piss out of Kingston upon Hull on breakfast news today. Regional coverage was much better. **** em.
Interestingly enough Hull started to be more prevalent on the BBC weather map after we got to the EPL in 2008. I was in Scotland at that time, and notice Hull appeared more regularly than before 2008.
They were a bit sniffy throughout and ended up saying something like 'Hull city of culture but who will go ?'
We had a guy in the street (Jimmy .....) who was a Trainspotter and ran a group from his mum's house; he got all of the kids sorted, which is why I remember it. Other than that all I know about trains is that today I paid £190 return for 1st class Durham to Woking return and on the scope of today's reality it isn't bad value if it gets me there on time. I like the train, you meet interesting folk and they don't do smiley faces - well maybe ...

Whitby is a northern part of Scarborough District ... ... but it.postcode is YO. You're more than a tad pot kettle talking of wading in; at least mine is correct.

A few of us were talking awhile back and someone said that it was funny, years had gone by but though people had forgotten a lot of things they all remembered William Henton Carver and it's number.It was regularly in Brid as well. Aways in a scruffy condition. 61215 was a B1. Only 2 survived. Ironically one was Mayflower, the one most people had difficulty seeing,which is painted in LNER apple green which it never had. I saw the other one being repaired at NYMR a few years ago when I took my grandson there. It is apparently now up and running in its origihal colours.
Wildebeeste was 61010, an easy name to remember. Can recall a few of the names of the ones named after antelopes but the only other one named after LNER directors I recall was Henry Kitson.
