Agreed. I think it'd be a better suggestion to replace the name Hull on the BBC weather map with the name City of Culture.
I certainly did. Re-read it ....and it's still not apparent. Probably due to poor punctuation or grammar in the post?
More likely due to not reading all the thread. Talking of punctuation, it is one dot it three or three dots. Never four.
My iPad is playing funny tricks. Must read what it says before pressing to post reply. Should have read one for or three dots never four dots.
See what you mean. I meant to post Trevor Pearson was instrumental in getting North Humberside off postal address and East Yorkshire brought back. There was a time when not putting North Humberside caused problems with posting to an East Yorks address. If you put in East Yorkshire instead of North Humberside when filling in a form it was sometimes returned. .
Living in a region named after an estuary 50 miles away must be almost as confusing as having a postcode denoting an inland city 50 miles away in a different region. I'm surprised people in Northumberland are not fuming. Perhaps Trev could go and campaign on their behalf?
I usually flag it up with them when I see companies using Humberside in an address. Some get quite possessive of their **** up, claiming the radio station or plod etc. justify it, which makes it fun. The time that TANYA took over the ambulances confused them on that one. I can't remember exactly where it was now, but one company insisted that they were right in using North Humberside in the address for County Hall in Beverley when writing to the East Riding of Yorkshire Council.
The post code and historic regional name are very different things. Like more recent examples, the way name changes are initiated can have a massive effect on their acceptability.
I'm a ****ing cultural philistine, but I've just bought two tickets for the Hull Truck play, The Hypocrite, that's how much I've been impressed by Hull 2017, I will be painting me self blue and flashing me widge down by the docks next, oh, scrub that thought.
Aye, but before that was built Champion the Wonder Horse was tethered there, or so it was told ... ... we called them The Lines, not the level crossing, next to Shiphams. Saw The Flying Scotsman come through; Hawthorn Ave was great way back.
Selby has a YO postcode,so does Filey. But Scarborough has a TS one same as Middlesbrough. Presumably something to do with regional sorting office.
