I prefer the LC, the FA Cup replays and Wembley semis are crap

2 legged semis should be scrapped. So should replays. Bring back OT and another non London stadium for the Semis. <ok>

My view is the thing went full circle a while back and many people failed to notice until the FA cup was so devalued as a trophy that it has no relevance any more.

Clubs in CL and club at the bottom of the table are actively dumping the FA cup as it is starting right after a heavy christmas period and if you are in CL last 16 or QF you don't want FA cup

Most top 4 teams seem to want to play the league cup as you can "get by" during the group phase of CL and then the only real issue is the two legged semifinal. its wrapped up before cl starts.

This is in huge contrast with arsneal's initial i will play nothing but kids here approach. Cheslea and City really want to win this.

BY contrast the FA cup is only a if i'm not in CL fall back play.

Simple effective solution; give the FA Cup winners the fourth CL spot. Problem solved

yes that would certainly help! uefa would never allow it but i think it would certainly stimulate everyone in england to really go for this again.

As established back in the summer of 2005, UEFA don't decide how the four places are achieved, it's left to the individual FA's to decide. Hence the stalemate between the FA and UEFA when it came to Liverpool or Everton competing in the 2005-06 season.

My worry is that a random lower team or lower league team could win it and qualify for the champions league.

I would suggest a 5/10 point bonus for winning it, as it could help a team survive, get Europe, get promotion etc.

You mean someone like Leicester? <whistle>

RE; the points suggestion... wouldn't that also more or less guarantee a league title for the top teams?

Also, the top four leagues all get four CL spots now rather than the top three. Having a so-called lesser team wouldn't matter too much.

Well, unless someone other than PSG pulled their French finger out their French arse that is.

IMO The rules could be very simple. Only winners get the spot, if in top 3 4th gets spot. must be prem team, if not (and its only happened once or twice in living memory then that club gets 10mil or something instead and it goes to 4th.

Ok yeah west brom one day could be in the cl but... well.. they still chase 40 points and would still ignore it on the basis of everyone else tries too hard.

What if the FA Cup winners get relegated in the same season?

Not sure if giving the winners a CL spot is the best incentive - solely because you could have a **** team winning the cup and representing England in the CL. If that happens, then I could impact on our coefficient and we could end up losing a spot.

I think giving the FA cup winners a CL place is a non starter. The cup winners could be a mid ranking championship side which just happened to have an easier run.

Better to stick with top 4. Talking of which, has anyone noticed how Everton have quietly gone into 2nd place? At the risk of jinxing them, they look to be the season's Leicester. They will crush small sides and big sides will struggle against them. Koeman is a brilliant manager, in the Klopp mould. Our biggest challenge to a top 4 could well come from our neighbours.

I like the idea of a play off RL style for the 2 CL places currently given to 3rd and 4th.

The teams who finish 3rd - 6th could play SF and then final with the winner getting the CL place that provides automatic entry to the league stages and the runner up getting the play off position. The 2 losing SF could get the 2 EL places and strip the LC of it's EL place.
