Get him in before someone else does, and we miss out on yet another available
    striker.

Let's be realistic. NUFC are not as attractive a prospective as we were a few years ago, except perhaps in France. In my opinion, we are not going to be able to attract a top class player, as we have a wages cap which is relatively modest by EPL standards, and we're unlikely to be able to offer European football, for at least the next season or two.

Long is a young up and coming player, extremely hardworking, with a great attitude (which I think is so important)and an eye for goal. He has also played with Best, for Ireland, so that they might form a good partnership. He also has a potential sell on value, which is what the club say they want in a new player.

No signing is without risk. Just ask Manure with Forlan, Veron, Djemba-Djemba (so bad they named him twice!) Obertan, Bebe etc. However, they are willing to take a chance, in the hope that they will unearth a diamond, like C Ronaldo.

So get your wallet out fatty, and take a punt. It's a better gamble than hoping we can stay up, with the forward line currently at our disposal.

I'd be happy if we signed Long, he's a more exciting prospect that Erdinc ever was. Reasonable transfer fee and wages, seems like our kind of player.

I like Long but I think we should go for Nolan Roux, he remids me of Torres (but he can score lol) 23 years old and play for a dud team price tag around £6 mill, and hes FRENCH!!!

I'm sure Ashley will part with £7-8million....NOT.

To be honest paying that much for someone who isn't good is crazy (1 good season in his career). Bring on Nolan Roux though.

Best is better than Long, only a year difference too, so not too fussed. Would take him as back up though.

As someone who watches most Irish international football matches, I would respectively suggest that lBest is certainly not better than Long. Not only do I, and most Irish footy fans think that, but more importantly, so does our international manager, Giovanni Trappatoni, who I would suggest knows a thing or two about the game!

Best is a trier, and did have a bit of a purple patch for NUFC during a run of about a dozen matches. However, I don't think even his mam would suggest that he is anything like a prolific goalscorer.

My fear is that the powers that be will have the same attitude, as you, or be influenced by such negative comments, from the fans, and we end up missing out on an outstanding young prospect. Just like we did, when we turned down the chance to sign Kevin Phillips, from Watford, for £850,000, back in the day, and he then went on to break all sorts of goal-scoring records, for our beloved neighbours down the road.

I'd be happy with Long, just the kind of striker we need.

A small part of me wants to see Sunderland sign him so when they have him and their new Korean striker up front it will be 'Long Dong'.

Just seeing on the SSN pages that Reading are advising no bids have been received from any Premiership teams for 'in demand' striker Long .. (seems in demand means West Ham and possibly Leicester) .. looks like it's all a waiting game at the moment for most teams on the transfer front ..

He's one of the only realistic strikers I'd want out of the English football league at the minute.

And don't you just know that our Glorious Leader will leave it to the last moment, and then bemoan the fact that the player went elsewhere.
