http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/14399073.stm There's still some interesting names out there without a club...
Was only mentioning this the other day. Almost a year ago and Upson was nodding home for England in the World Cup against Germany. Now he finds himself without a club. Baffling, he's a quality player, when fit.
I agree. I'm surprised nobody has taken McFadden either. His performances for Scotland have always been quality (according to my Scottish mate who goes to all of Scotland's games)
I wouldn't say baffling. He's coming off the worst season of his career and his wages have been massive. He's in the situation where he's too expensive for clubs he'd improve and is a gamble for clubs who can afford him. There are some good players about even if you look outside the PL: Maik Taylor, Marcus Bent, Kevin McDonald, Claude Davis, Craig ***an, Matt Duke, Richard Hughes, Danny Webber, Darren Byfield, Tom Williams, Darryl Duffy.
I always remember that first season game against Wet Spam at the KC. Mike Turner completely outshone Upson, out jumping, out thinking, out playing him when he was in our box and then going and scoring a great header against him at the other end. Couple of weeks later I seem to recall Upson being called up into the England squad. Upson is and always has been MASSIVELY overrated.
Not according to him: http://www.belfasttelegraph.co.uk/s...ional/finished-not-me-says-maik-16022274.html
their is some "good" players on that list and a lot would walk straight into a championship team and some maybe premiership
My heart bleeds for them all. The chickens are really coming home to roost now. Many will come back to the real world and suffer the hardship and trauma of those poor lads @ Blackpool. No sympathy what-so-ever. Interesting interview with Tony Pulis @ Stoke on SSN, when he says that Stoke will do some late business and they want at least 5 pleyers. They have uefa football to offer as well. If Liverpool get Ryan Shawcross as an example then Upson is a ready made replacement for Stoke. The power is shifting back to the clubs for players under the top ones. Long may that continue. Its been with the players for far to long. Jeez.....Hull City could get Thomas Hitzelzperger for less than Bullard is getting. Scary thought.
An old head with a bit of class on the ball like Julio Arca or Zenden would be nice. But think we'd be better offloading a few first before bringing any more in... the 5 sub rule doesn't help!
