Yes, 3 individual errors. Players aren't robots and expected to make errors every now and again but we make so many. I believe we have made the most defensive errors in the league for the past 2-3 years according to Opta. We have conceded around 50 goals per season for the past 3 seasons - are you saying that it's ok because players aren't robots and errors are to be expected? I'm sorry but that's unacceptable.
Like I said earlier, there's a difference between intelligently running into space and losing your marker, vs simply running in. A straight line unopposed. Watch the goal again and tell me if you think Matic did anything special and that Henderson couldn't have done anything about it. I agree with you that some goals are down to excellent attacking play, but the goal we conceded was not an example. We were very poor defensively - which is a shame because we had defended pretty well for majority of the match.
My response was to you talking about Matip only. Individuals make errors and whether you like it or not, you have to accept it. So errors in a short space of time is different but it still happens at every team. As long as we minimise it (and win the game) then all is good
I think it's just more frustrating as we clearly aren't looking like the shambles we've been for the last 4 years defensively, we look solid, organised and in control. BUT we are 5 games in without a clean sheet in the PL. We also have to remember there has been chopping and changing going on due to injuries and Moreno being beyond ****, if we get that back 4 playing for a month solid the clean sheets will come.
That is true but collectively, we are making far too many of those - and it's why we're conceding 50 goals a season.
I think we'll see an improvement in this regard this season, but it might take a bit of time to come together.
I would agree in general with this. Just need consistency and team work. Just like up front we can't down tools and start lashing silly shots after 20mins cos a side sits deep. Just need to execute the plan and understand the danger
your kidding right? Lovren, Matip and Clyne were all great. Milner got a bit of a run around but was as solid as he could be against someone with Willian's pace. Lovren played really well.
I thought the whole of defence and midfield were solid defensively. Bar the mistakes for the goal Chelsea didn't threaten us at all. Matip was brilliant and Lovren was a steady 7 in my opinion. Won some headers, won some tackles, passed the ball simple. No one beat him in any one on ones.
That went well... First half sublime.. Second half, they came into more, silly mistake/sloppy play be 3 players that lead to their goal, but other than that and a snap shot from Costa, we "saw out the game" rather well, which was a pleasant change from the norm.. Last year we'd have drawn or maybe lost that game, to early to say we've progressed but nice to see none the less! Now watch us cock up against Hull!
This is always my concern. For a while now we've managed to raise our game for the big teams then immediately flopped against one of the so-called "lesser" teams. These teams are no pushovers, and although we should beat them, we'll only do so if we maintain the same attitude and application that we have against the top teams. Never take anyone for granted in this league, they're all capable of making you look stupid.
Excellent point. I'm certainly in the when will the other shoe drop camp. That noisy **** upstairs dropped one shoe and now its all good nice and quiet but you know you can't go to sleep until that other bloody shoe hits the floor. since burnely we have been playing with intensity, a clear game plan we've stuck with and got result form. We've not gone behind in a game? we've socred early so have not panicked or changed our game plan or gave up on it since? The tests I see are: 1. We concede like we did v burnely again. what do we do? 2. we don't score in first 1/2 hour. what do we do? Irrespective of the opponents tactics IMO the answer is the same in overall approach. Keep the intensity up, keep faith their the game plan, keep playing as a team. When we break we do so by becoming individuals lashing shots form all over not making the right runs, not keeping faith that ther eis time and the plan will work if we keep going.
Klopp said e prefers to lose v burnley knowing why they lost than win and have no idea how they won. So it looks like he knows what went wrong and should be able to put across to the players.
Hull's results this season so far: September 2016 Hull 1-4 Arsenal Burnley 1-1 Hull August 2016 Hull 0-1 Man Utd Swansea 0-2 Hull Premier League Hull 2-1 Leicester We cannot take them for granted, they are going to be up for this.
I agree I thought he was very clear that they had lots of ball but just stopped playing as a team and trying to break them down but all just lash pot shots and played as individuals I don't think he minds the goals being conceded par se but the failue to play as a team allows burnley a dead easy ride
Just rewatching the highlights and Sturridge's early shot spilled by Courtois. I thought initially it was held just by backspin, but it clearly stops dead only after falling into a deep goalline trench that's been dug out in violation of IFAB Laws of the Game #1.
