after watching Chelsea last night I wonder how good they really are? Cortois look ok but is he better than Cech? I don't think so. their best defender is 35 and without him Cahill looks slightly lost. Ivanovic looks to be fading badly. Kante was rubbish last night and not the player from last season (but he will probably improve) and Matic has carried his form on from last season where he was disappointing. I don't see what Oscar brings to the team except to run down blind allies and give the ball away. Hazzard is class but we bottled him up superbly last night, Willian is also class too and their best player last night by a mile. Costa is a **** but if he's your **** then you don't mind. IMO Conte has a lot to sort out in this team.
In an ideal world they go on a long Barron run for a number of years....25 years minimum would be nice.
Said last year, take out hazard and Costa and Chelsea have nothing going forward as shown when they were out of form last season. Willian is good player but won't create something out of nothing. Not seen enough of new guy batshit but seems like it's him or Costa not both together.
Willian is better than Costa Costa just fouls and does tap ins, Willian creates way more and is a danger on free kicks
He seems to find a teammate whenever he clears the ball. So calm and composed on the ball and a real physical presence. The mistake for the goal was criminal though but as per usual, we seem to make 3-4 individual errors for most goals we score.
he should have done better no question. it was an odd error. mati got in a good space cos lallana lost him and henderson did see him but seems to then look away and ignore the run. matip just dived in. put hands behind bacl and slid and easy got beaten. it was very poor. Lallana then slid in too and missed. really though... it was poor all round. lovern got very unfairly blamed.
Thought Lovren was poor overall but not sure what else he could have done for the goal. As you say, the real issue was how easy Matic gone into the box and managed to pass to Costa.
lovern didn't make an actual mistake anywhere really and matip only the one. if you watch the vid of the goal you can clearly see henderson look at the guy running in the decide not to do anything and look back at the ball.
Just throwing this out there...are we too critical of the individual mistake? Don't get me wrong...we've had some punishing ones recently... But even if it leads to a goal down...rarely is it in the last ten minutes with us... Should we stop saying "doom"? And look at how we respond...I see signs of us being better at that...not miraculous but a better mentality...
yes probably... The reaction to the mistake is important. Lucas cocked up terribly last game and the team went on to just get more goals. In this game the errors lead to a goal and we clung on then get comfortable in the game again. However ideally the terrible cock ups don't occur. As was said on sky they goals are not from pressure.. they are from nowhere.. just inexplicable throw on in at random times of the game and we are all kind of just wondering ok whens the other shoe falling here... If someone fouled like lucas did and willian fired in a free kick or hazard we'd just say ok fair play but thats not what's been happening.
I don't think we are too critical because regardless of how we respond or if we go onto win or lose, they are still errors. And there will be times when we are punished for them and it will cost us dearly. I do think we are learning how to recover and hold onto leads a bit better but I can't help feel that we are relying heavily on our attack to bail us out all the time.
Yep, many of you are. I was just sat here thinking to myself that some need to find a reason to blame somebody for a goal conceded yet, every goal scored is put down to fantastic attacking play. Give the opposition attack some credit for what they do and try to accept that sometimes a goal is made by the opposition and not just by Liverpool attackers.
Lovren didn't make costly mistakes but he rushed out a few times and lost most of his challenges and it let him down. On the other hand, Matip won most of his challenges but made one really poor error which led to a goal. Football is a funny game...
So you think our central midfielder not tracking his runner and a defender going to ground far too easily is excusable?
Was referring more to defensively - it's unfair because attackers can get away with making mistakes I.e missing a few sitters etc but just need a goal to make up for it. Defenders can play well for 89 mins but make one mistake which leads to a goal and it costs the team.
Christ the Manc got what I meant lol.... Yep Mito..I know what you mean about what they call in tennis; unforced errors but I just don't think it's that simple... The Lucas one for example was a culmination of 3 individual mistakes...Migs..Lucas...the ref lol... Even if we look at Stevie G's ...the mythology new accepted by the press is that his slip cost us that title...it didn't...it was the response..it was the panic... I'm seeing less panic these days which gives us a chance...the mistake might cost us a game or point but it's rare that it does. Am I making sense?
