Do you not watch him play..? He's shattered after about half an hour every time he starts. And that's with a week break in between, because he's not fit enough to play the Shane Long role

I'm not saying he's not knackered etc, but Im saying he's had all summer to get fit and be ready, so he can play 2 games in 4 days, something is seriously wrong if he can't achieve that.

2 days. Some people are just naturally more fit than others. Austin isn't a naturally high fit player, it's not through lack of trying to be fit. He's as fit as his body naturally allows him.

Haven't seen that show but I understand it's about a couple of deluded old queens? Less of the old, thanks.

Yeah, not sure we can be surprised if we have to carefully manage Austin through the season, that's why he was 4 million quid. Lallana was the same though.

Indeed and the old No 9 spot where you could hang about between attacks isn't available anymore. I'm sure he'll get a bit better with more match time though, but shame we don't have JRod available as between them they can do 90mins.

We clearly need to extend the scouting dept into bio-tech and merge Charlie's height and scoring genes with Shane's jumping and running genes and create our own super-striker <double> >>> <monster>

It's what is making Austin track back look even more ridiculous. Aside from it absolutely not being his game - just look at Thursday, he's a man for being in the penalty box - he simply isn't physically able to do it.

I'm not really a fan of seeing Long, Jay or Redmond in or round our RB or LB positions, but at least they have the legs to get up and down the pitch. To be asking Austin to do that is so many levels of wrong.

One thing I did notice is that Charlie is an on field organiser, he was frequently over by the dugout taking instructions from the bench and went around distributing the information to others, he was also looking after Matt Targett, giving him lots of praise and support, He was also doing his stuff when chasing back, he may have looked a bit windswept and interesting towards the end of his stint, but that was because he had put in a good shift, which isn't to be moaned at considering how many minutes he has played, It takes time to get match fit, irrespective of how fit you are on the training field. Shane Long, after an hour, his body language said he wanted a break, but he still kept going, has to be a bit more savvy on the offside front, but he wasn't always offside when it was given, his speed off the mark is deceptive, and I am convinced the Kingsland Linesman was caught off guard more than once. I would have preferred Tadic to have been on the the left flank giving Matt a target to pass to, Matt had a couple of good breaks only to find no one to work with and had to pass backwards. Hojbjerg was spending a lot of time in the first behind and covering Martina, he did play more advanced later and some of his passing was sublime.

Fair enough - we're probably all exaggerating how tired he looked. Very few people can sustain Shane Long levels of energy for 90 mins. Plus it was still pretty hot on Thursday night.

Absolutely spot on. Why oh why can't we play with wingers crossing it into him?! It just so much makes sense to everyone except Puel.

He is just lacking game time, would be surprised not to see him start tomorrow.
