Tusk didn't let slip. He's toying with the U.K., ensuring the ball is always in our court.

This is the exact reason I voted Remain at this stage. I wanted an amicable, partial separation. That's difficult when you've handed the pick of the cards to your opponent!

You certainly and effortlessly come across as someone who doesn't understand the discussion going on and around him.

At least Kustard occasionally admitted that it was all too complicated for him to fully comprehend! <laugh>

Out of interest what do people think the UK will end up with. (not what you want, but what the gov will get)
    Bit of a sweep stake.

My guess will be. Limited movement such as the EU will get first choice to live here than none EU countries to get access to most of the single market (pass-porting being the most important)

If only we were as bright as you, or as accurate with predictions as your mate. <laugh>

I do enjoy these claims of superior intellect and knowledge from you and your ilk, especially as I've repeatedly said I'm thick with a limited knowledge. I can still see that so much from the remoanians is desperate claims and focusing in on very limited areas, which they still keep judging wrong.

It seems to be what Hammond is prioritising. Free access to the EU financial markets is essential, or many of the top banks whose European operations are virtually all based in London, will relocate most of their operations to mainland Europe, most likely Frankfurt.

It seems pretty clear that we are not going to get complete restriction on free movement. What compromise, if any, can be done is unclear at this stage as both sides seem to be playing hard ball.

There it is. You're obsessed with lumping people into groups. Funny that...

Maybe both are showing to the public the hard ball rhetoric, but in reality will split the difference, both the EU and UK need each other to some degree.

We will end up with a typical EU fudge where some matters are never resolved and you live in a half in / half out no man's land indefinitely.

Possibly, yes. It's early days and there's a lot of posturing going on.

I do think the EU now realises the folly of their policy, led my Merckel, of an open door to migrants from outside the EU, and I expect something to be done about that.

There are GE's in both Germany and France next year. The results of those will be interesting, and could shape future EU policy to an extent.

This as it's the only way both parties can save face. It will come at a cost though as someone has to pay.

I think the EU will address that issue. The UK won't have a say in it though, which goes back to the sense of staying in and influencing the change so that it suits the UK. As it is we will be relying on the EU to negotiate a deal that doesn't have a negative knock on effect for the UK. The reality is that in or out of the EU, they are and always will be on our doorstep.

Well, no, exactly. The current EU meeting in Bratislava - the first without the UK, is an indication of our now isolated status.

    We weren't invited. There's a difference.

Not much point in going as the UK will not be part of the EU.

No, and in no position to influence it's policies either.

The UK had little if any influence in the first place. Better to be far away from them as possible.

The policies are liable to be influenced by the decision to leave, if for no other reason than to limit the damage from others being influenced to leave and they lose the undemocratic power base they've created..

If only that was true. Nearly every claim Farage made was subject to a UK veto and therefore couldn't happen without UK agreement.
