Well that is what Grayson has told the press when questioned about the clubs lack of transfer activity this pre season. I haven't seen Lonergran, yes he might be a little better than Kasper and Brown a missing defensive midfield that we should have fixed last January but I would rather Grayson had come out and said I have no money to spend.
why would you rather him say that... you dont know that that is the case, the more likely case would be players are asking for more money than they are worth and regardless of how much money you have, you dont pay more than what someone is worth, he has said that he is looking to get another player ontop of O'Dea before the southampton game. I think we should've been looking for about 4 or 5 players max during the transfer window, but very good players and that is what grayson has done/is doing maybe to the exception of O'Dea but im not going to comment on him too much before i have seen him play. People need to stop scare mongering, we will be up there dont worry about that, i'd be more worried about the upcoming season if i was a leicester fan or a forest fan or even a cardiff fan. Bates is smart, he is spending what we have not what we dont have like other teams are doing, we made a profit last year and he has said we will make a profit this year as well, regardless of how controversial we have spent money on the stadium that maybe other clubs wouldnt have been able to do
players like nunez, clayton, lees are also like having new signings. And i dont think you could find a nunez type player for at least 3 mill unless your leicester who will offer 10 mill. Were in good hands this year Fans of other clubs havnt really seen what these players are about and soon as they do im hoping there going to be in for a shock!
Monster I like Nunez, but i think its abit early to say he's a 3m players. He's play what 15 minutes for leeds. He's done nothing for us yet Ive high hopes for him like you but will grayson play him !!!!!!!!!!!! I hope But I think everyone has got to be disappointed with the transfer dealings
This is just garbage, the delph money and Kasper money, that should be ploughed back into the team. Bates does have the money and sorry you are a fool if you cannot see that Bates is taking the profits rather than making them available to strengthen the squad. Lonergran and Brown - Are they really the best quality we could get, I am not knocking either of them but come on TOP quality? We don't pay more for someone than they are worth - HOW do you put a value on that then? Bates makes that call, he thinks a player isn't worth it but a dozen other Championship clubs disagree they offer the wage and get the player. I would rather have a very good player winning us promotion and being slighly over paid leaving no profit than middle of the road signings that keep us mid table but hey ho that is okay because Bates is getting richer.
I hope you were not one of the same ones on the old BBC 606 who were shouting out after a couple of friendly matches with Grella playing how we have discovered a 20+ goal a season superstar who will be worth 8 million... LOL Nunez I also have high hopes for but let us give him a season or two before we judge him. Anyway, we don't want him to be too good or Bates will sell him when he asks to be paid more than peanuts.
Keep us mid table? We finished seventh last season, and were promoted the season before that. When were we last mid table?
I think that with Brown it's all about experience in the middle of the field..he's played at the top level for years now and will go about his job with a wise head...might not be the top drawer signing we all wanted but it's a signing that we were missing all last season
in the free sport magazine that you get down in london they had us finishing 3rd behind westham and leicestershire
I came across an interesting post by a Leeds fan. He listed your players that you can class as 'coming in' and those 'going out'. He included Kisnorbo as an 'In' because most of you view him as a whole new signing for this year (fair point) - he therefore had to include your current injury list to the 'Going Outs', i.e. Beccio and Somma. He incldued the loss of the loanees from last year (again fair enough - we lost plenty of loaness and Svens first goal was to replace them all - hence we have been very active this summer). The conclusion looked pretty bleak I have to say as far as a transfer market goes. Thoughts? 'INS' Lonergan Rachubka O'Dea Kisnorbo Brown 'OUTS' Schmeicel Higgs Gonzalez Lichaj McCartney Naylor kilkenny Johnson Livermore Bannan Watt Somma Becchio
Ins Nunez Clayton Lees White All returning from loans refreshingly youthful And only person on that outgoing list im fussed about is WATT, Becchios out for a month and Somma didnt get gametime anyway
Becchio hardly counts as an OUT as he's only out for a month at most. Somma will play a part at the back half of the season too. My assessment on the OUT players: Schmeicel - Replaced with Better Higgs - See Above Gonzalez - Never Played Lichaj - Would like to see him back, not unlikely if he did come McCartney - **** Naylor - Surplus to Requirements kilkenny - Replaced with Better Johnson - Clayton has come through in pre-season Livermore - Awful Bannan - Hardly Played Watt - Good at the start of the season, hardly played at the end So hardly bleak when you actually look at the facts.
He played 45 minutes against Cardiff and made another 15 minute cameo at another game; Scunny away I think. He then impressed at Glanford Park on loan and continued to be revered by the Hondurenos for his international appearances. He hasn't done a lot for us, it's true, but that's the same vacuous non-statement we could be making about any new signing. He's shown he has something in this division and I think the lad will become a very handy supersub and really push Howson for his place, which can only be a good thing. And PYFU, five of those 'outs' were loan signings who were signed after the summer window closed. Hardly a fair comparison at this time, is it? Peter Beagrie's tipping us for promotion too. Always found that he talks a lot of sense, even when he's being critical.
I've always found he seems to actually take time to find out about the clubs he's talking about, rather than the usual "This player was good on TV but they've sold him so they'll get relegated this season and they brought less than 15 players in" drivel.
Sorry mate i was a 606er and im a realist! Nunez is on a diff planet to Grella. The fact he kept a below par scunny team in with a fight scoring 3 in 6 says to me he will cut it! Hes a full international with heeps of abillity! But you know best right?
some balanced reasoned debate on this thread, be careful boys you'll give the board a bad name! my view is that the signings on paper have been disappointing and we have lost more from our team at the back end of last season than we have replaced. However, if brown provides the structure we were missing last season and clayton steps up the plate, we might be a better balanced side. Desperately need a dedicated left back (no-one on our books is good enough at this level imo) and another midfield workhorse for competition/cover.
