A Serious Matter which the Club must Address.

We are living through dangerous times with terrorist risks. The football club check bags and employ special scanning devices at the turnstiles to ensure our safety when the greatest risk to our safety is our inability to hear announcements over the tannoy system. Throughout last night's game I did not understand a single word that was said over the sound system except in the men's lavatory. I dread to think how the safety officials will communicate with the crowd in an emergency such as the need to make a controlled and calm evacuation. It would be irresponsible to rely upon Chinese Whispers to communicate action because the sound system just does not work. Is this a matter for the H&SE?

Sorry Godders, joking apart I do take your point very seriously. One would hope that with a sponsorship deal with Virgin Media the club might be encouraged to improve the PA system anyway. God forbid there should ever be a need for an evacuation, but your point is well made.

 

I agree totally, and I suggest you take it up with the club. They may not have thought through the implications. If you don't get anywhere take it up with the H&SE. Worth the effort because, one day, you may save lives.

Completely agree with Godders. Was sat in Kingsland stand at the half way line and couldn't hear a thing and neither could my dad.

If something panic-inducing had happened that might not be the most effective way to communicate.

Very fair point. Compared to the Emirates it's genuinely embarrassing, but more importantly dangerous, how terrible it is

 

If they improve the PA will we be able to hear what Franny Benali's daughter is saying when she's flitting about with a mic?

I have being saying it for a long time, the only time you can understand it inside the Stadium is when it is relatively empty, there is something terribly wrong with the acoustics when the Stadium is full. Last night they were giving instructions in Czech, it was just as incomprehensible when spoken in English.

 

Didn't they have a review and a big announcement over he summer that they had plans to upgrade the system or have I dreamt that.

 

That is what they said in response to a questionnaire that they featured pre-season, no sign of any action yet.

 

I hoped last year when we were sponsored by a company that makes speakers, they might have fitted some gratis.

May I suggest that you draw up some sort of petition, rather than writing to the club. Nothing demanding, just asking the club to sort out the PA system please, giving reasons, etc... [it won't be an easy job otherwise they would have done it already] and here are several hundred/thousand signatories who agree.

Better than one bloke alone who could be ignored.

Or perhaps make it a question at the next Radio Solent Fan's Forum.?
