Cuco's cross for Charlie's second with the outside of his right foot was as sumptuous as his goal against Arsenal.

 

No he wasn't forgotten. These players were referenced against Van Dijk following the suggestion that VVD was our best ever centre half.

The moment he did it I was minded of a time last season when, in almost the same position, he did a cool trick to keep the ball in play, gave possession away and our opponents (I forget who they were) nearly scored. So I was pleased to see Cuco's response. Plus, I'm a big fan in general of defenders who know when to use row OO (is knowing that about St Mary's nerdy, or what?)

No. Point missed. I am not digging Jose, I am standing up for Maya who for some reason (maybe the same reasons as above) seems to not get credit when deserved. Last night he was excellent. Yes of course Virgil was the best. He is the best, but I don't understand it when people choose not to see when someone less favourable is very good.

Agreed. But I don't think Maya is a huge distance off, and on form (admittedly not a lot of basis for a major point with a couple of games each) is playing the better of the two currently.

Nothing to do with Jose being unforgiven or Maya suddenly loved. It's just a fairly plain fact.

I wouldn't drop Jose for Maya next game - he's our captain and needs to play his way back into form. Just I wouldn't worry at all were Maya playing for whatever reasons.

 

I wouldn't put Van Dyke anywhere near that list.

Van Dijk would get in though.

Just out of interest, how would you rate Virgil against the players on that list (specifically Mark Wright)?

 

Depends what stand. In the Itchen it's MM (I was in MM last night and the next row are the Executive Boxes )

That's tough to call. Mark Wright was a superb footballing CB and would bring the ball out on little trips forward too.

 

How good was THAT pass from Hojgberg to Cuco near the end?

 

That boy has some super stuff in his locker! If he is set to get better as we all think, we really have a (another!) classy player on our hands!
