A bigger issue with the S*n is the revenue they get online. I try to avoid ever clicking on a link that points there, but not all links are clear about where they point. It's possible to block the entire domain, but it's a ball ache to do.

By appealing to shoppers outside the shops that stock it, informing them why the boycott is in place, that those who may be going in to buy it, will think again - sales will fall even further and the shops that do still stock it will cease to have a need to and eventually no shops in Liverpool will sell it.

Don't forget there are a lot of people unaware of what the paper did, young people, students and those who it simply passed by. You can tell by comments on here on the various boards that there are still people generally - football fans at that - that simply don't know.

So it's to raise awareness then. Fair enough.

Didn't realise there would be anyone in Liverpool that didn't know tbh. Most of the country knows!

Boycotts are about raising awareness. Appealing to people by telling them why they shouldn't be buying something and then it's up to them. Some may feel shamed into not buying, some will genuinely not have known and will stop after being informed and others will buy regardless.

I was stopped and asked not to buy Nestle products a few years back because of the slavery in Thailand. I knew nothing about it so I checked the stuff I was buying in case any was Nestle, in support of those campaigning for the rights of those enslaved.

You'd be surprised at the amount of people who don't know about the s** role in Hillsborough. Don't forget Liverpool is a major student city with students from all over the country living here none of whom were born when it happened. So that's just one potential newspaper buying demographic living in the city now.

Not always. Boycotts can be about forcing the company or thing being boycotted into making a decision or simply an attempt to end them.

I have no issue with boycotting (obviously, I dont buy it myself), my beef was with a push for a ban (effectively). People should be free to make their own choice.

However, I know see its a awareness campaign. If enough people are made aware then as you said, shops won't stock it since no one is buying it. Same outcome as a ban but done in a better fashion.

Well yeah I know boycotts aren't just about not buying stuff that's just the aspect of it we're talking about here. Picket lines are boycotts.

Mate there's no push for a ban - they couldn't do that, Joe was the only one talking about bans. Had he not been quoted, the word wouldn't even be in the report.
