No Iwelumo, no Mears and especially no Eagles for Burnley.

Eagles and Iwelumo were the only two players to cause us trouble last time....so for me it seems that Burnley are going to struggle this season.

Not so sure about Burnley doing badly this season. Eddie Howe has shown what he can do with a limited budget and he doesn't seem to have let more money change the way he does things. My only thought about Burnley is why MM wasn't interested when, clearly, his heart wasn't at Watford. What did he know that we don't?

I'm not confident about this game unless we can play as a total unit.

If we can get 3 points out of our first 3 games ,I dont think we would have done too bad , looking at the league fixture list!

NZ: If he believes what he would have been told, Cardiff was unquestionably a better prospect.

(un?)fortunately, I think he has fallen into a very similar trap to the previous Watford manager, and that only automatic promotion with slightly above average resources will be good enough to keep him in a job.

I can see sneaking a victory on Saturday, it really will be our first indication about whether Dyche is up to standard as a manager.

A tough game, but not too bad. Burnley have lost quite a few players but they have a very good young manager.

Good luck with the match threads ak! :D

My heart says 2-1 Hornet away win my head says 2-1 to Burnley. I will settle for a good away point to get our season off to a good start. I expect Burnley to have a good season and they are usually strong at teh Turf. However COYY 2-1 away win for the Hornets.

In pre-season we let in silly goals but otherwise were quite tight at the back.
I just hope we don't make that sort of mistake on Saturday!

Hi Norway, I've just been up to my neck in it at work and have just done a mini-triathlon so was doing a lot of training for that. Have popped my head in now and then and now the season is starting I'll try to make more of an effort.

I'll plump for a draw but maybe our enthuiastic youngsters will nick us a win. It tends to be more about effort than quality in the first game and I do not see us lacking in that department.

I'll be going to this game and simply cannot wait for it, just over 24 hours to go! The first goal will be of total significance, as once that goal flies then one teams pre-season preparations will be for nothing and the others will have gathered momentum and confidence. Not sure why, but I quite fancy us to get a lucky first goal and go on to take the game 3-1! Burnley will miss the creativity of Eagles and the presence of Iwelumo, but I remember Treacy, who has gone to Burnley, gave Hodson the right run-around when he was at Preston so he could be dangerous. Still fancy us to take the win, and I'll write my thoughts up on the Sunday!

Good post Ak, great shame that no Burnley fans have contributed as of yet, it seems that inter-team banter will become a thing of the past!

This is a stat to be very happy with. Especially thinking that we now have a bona-fide left flank and plenty of fresh blood.

Watford beat Norwich 3-2 away in their opening league fixture last season, and have not been beaten on the opening day since 2006.

Slightly off-topic, ak, but did you know it's 7 degrees Fahrenheit warmer in Reykjavik now than Buenos Aires? I'm interesting like that.
