Hard to call this game. We're desperate to get our first win under the new manager and will certainly be targeting 3 points from this one. Also worth remembering that we play Sparta Prague on Thursday in the EL so will be interesting to see the teams we put out for both games. If we fail to win on Thursday then you'll have a great chance if you can keep things quiet for the first 20 minutes as the crowd will get nervous etc.
Thanks for the double speak lesson Matt So who let who down? you agree Guidolin realized HIS mistakes and had to make changes to rectify them. Familiarity was required on Sunday, the players needed to be at the top of their game to get anything and in order to do this they needed to be at ease with the tactics and style of play expected of them. Imo Guidolins error was to move away from the familiar, Guidolin expected his players to adapt to an Italian style of play, formation and tactics only HE was familiar with and used at Udenese. Imo he let the players down by expecting them to copy a style of play only he was familiar with. His Udenese tactics stifled the teams ability to play, restricting the players to a 'backs to the wall' performance. Yet, once released from this confinement the players were able to breath, play and bite back which to their credit they did. So it looks like we just have to live on the opposite side of the fence with this Matt because, for the reasons above, I say Guidolin let the players down.
Given that we were told frequently last season that Guido likes a 3-5-2 set up, I was somewhat surprised that we did not bring in players (that Guido knows) from Italy during the Summer who were experienced and capable of playing that formation.
All summer we heard stories of Italian defenders we were looking at so I too was expecting more of an Italian look about the team, particularly in defense.
I suspect he'll try the same initial formation early doors v Southampton, maybe improve training to accommodate it. I'm not endorsing that by the way, but it's a possibility. I think we'll lose by a fair margin but I said that v Chelsea.
Give me the Swansea way any day of the week. Guildo's way is never going to get us enough points.....Picking up the odd point or even winning a game now and then will send us down.......We should act now while the season is young.....
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/37366673 Guidolin, Huw and Yanks are taking the proverbial piss now. Who the hell is this? Another £5 player to replace Ash?
Don't be silly Valley - he will be the biggest name in the Premier League! Which other club can sign a name such as the 16 letter Papagiannopoulos.......
He is only having a trial valley, We cant use him if he passes the trial and huw likes him until the January window opens......But like you say another player nobody wants.....
Off subject I know, but when did De vries sign for Celtic missed that one and the 7 he let in last night. Can he possibly better than what we have Valley, I doubt it, It still smacks of preparing for the championship next season. Looks like we are still looking in Poundlands window.
I hope Guidolin doesn't deploy 3-5-2 again because we simply don't have the players to do this. I hope he'll go for our conventional system and see Barrow, Montero and Baston lead the front because Southampton look weak at the back this season something we need to test. I really want to see Britton play because he's fundamental to our game and is our best player to get our attack started. I know this maybe controversial but I think that we should drop Siggy because he hasn't turned up at all this season. Fer I think will thrive in a more attacking role as he's not the best at tracking back. I know I'm my other formation for this I said we should drop Fer but after thinking about it it'll seem unfair to drop him based on his form. I'd go for a line up like; Fabianski Naughton, Fernández, Amat, Kingsley Britton, Cork Barrow, Fer, montero Baston And really hit them with our pace. From what I've been reading VDH and Mawson isn't ready for premier league football yet. So that tells me that Fernández will keep his place.
