This debate requires an entire team view.

Lucky misses a **** ton and half the time doesn't try a leg to close down or help.

then again lucky is not to blame if 3 chances fall to him and he doesn't his job in putting them in the net when he does actually get the shots on target is he?

Forwards job is to get the goals, not blast them wide so if he gets one chance and one goal ok and if he gets 3 and gets 3 great... but if he gets 5 chances and gets one goal then not so good.... simply as if his team can only make one chance like everton did for a while last season by the end and he misses they lose. Its nice to get 5/6 chances a game and look a hero.. but when the chips are down in the big games...

    well...

everotn only had two big games in a cup last season didn't they? they won at home with lucky getting the winner but lost 3-1 in the second leg. did he even get a chance in that game?

thats what separates the men form the boys. when the chips are down what does he do... and for belgium the answer this summer was faff all and for bobby brown shoes he never tried a leg for 6 months... hence i don't really like him

If Lukaku finished and created more goals then the defensive errors wouldn't have cost you so many points.

Last season you treated Lukaku like a #onemanteam where everything was supposed to go through him. But he just isn't clinical or consistent enough for that role. So of course you failed.

You were only weak at the back because you had every midfielder and fullback going forward (and because you played Howard for some reason #prayforjoel ) to try to put it on a plate for Lukaku.

Main point is Lukaku is a decent striker. He isn't a match winner. His great games are against the likes of Sunderland, West Brom, and Young Boys. You should be beating them anyway, just with the goals spread out among the team more. Instead Lukaku monopolises the goals in those games. Then when you come up against the better teams, he isn't good enough to deliver the goals, and the rest of the team hasn't been set up or practiced in doing it either.

Interesting you mentioned the Cup game vs City mate, after having said he's misses a '**** ton' of chances

which one... cos i didn't specifically say he missed a **** ton in that game I specifically asked did he miss any in second leg and commented he misses a **** ton generally... I've also commented he's to disrespectful in talking about leaving every second week for me but nobodies fought about that one.

You didn't read the article did you mate?

Anyway, he was disrespectful in the latter half of last season and when he was openly pimping himself at the Euros, no argument.

He can be a sulky sod as well, but given how often I watched the fella make great runs only to be ignored as Martinez side was playing to me to you on the half way line, I'm not surprised he got arsed off tbf.

What is not in question is his talent. He's not perfect though, his first touch is still meh at times, his hold up play is so, so and he's too easily discouraged. BUT he's got better over time, especially since he's been working with Big Dunc. He only turned 23 at the end of last season, people forget how young he is. Barkley is still getting the 'youngster' excuse, whereas Lukaku never seems to have the same applied.

    I did after.. <laugh>

Yeah he is relatively young but he's moved for 30mil so sterling doesn't get it. stones won't either. barkely is HG so will get a lot of that he's only young stuff. big transfers = big expectations.

Aye, I suppose that's how it works.

I just hope the big Belgian beast stays fit, as we've got little quality behind him in the queue.

I think if he does he'll have a good season, he's linked well with Bolasie already - who's his mate btw, so that helps.

Whatever your opinions of Lukaku are he still has a near as damn it 1 in 2 record...

    The end

Could switch it and say Studge does well against big teams but then spends most the season being treated...

Mate the whole argument was around Lukaku vs Benteke and on this I agreed with astro - which doesn't make anyone a 'dimwit' btw. I've said I would have taken him when he went to Everton, so it's nothing personal against him.

Sometimes people spot things which surprise you, as mito said earlier about some calling Suarez a flat track bully - I hadn't noticed at the time that his record against the top clubs wasn't that good. I took it on board as it was a valid viewpoint and it wasn't as if he was struggling to score elsewhere and propel us almost single-handedly to the top of the league <laugh>

I just don't understand why some fans are so stubborn in their refusal to look at the pattern. As I said earlier it's not necessarily a criticism of lukaku and if explored properly may even show how lukaku is doing better than people think.

suarez was a shoot early, shoot often merchant and he wanted to play at speed. the amount of times he'd try a lay off out wide and just put it out of play cos nobody else was reading what he'd want.

Against top teams frankly.. he was not lightening fast and the team wasn't all that was it?

At this point its messi on a plate finish, turn celebrate with him... he's having a great time.
