Yeh I really like the idea of a bike then i think about the uk weather and how it's basically winter for 8 months
I once rode with my then Mrs to spend Christmas with family in Fleetwood. It was night-time and ridiculously cold. You were grateful for the stretches of sodium lighting because they warmed you up half a degree. We stopped off now and again to swig neat gin (this was a while back, you can tell) in a vain and misguided attempt to warm up. When we got there my knees were locked in the riding position and I walked round like a cowboy for an hour or so. The others seemed to think it was funny, for some reason.
That's what those who drive Biscan around normally report after a journey, usually only the passenger deriving any pleasure on those though
What I find ridiculous are those bikes with the handle bars way up above the head. Can't help snickering at people riding those. Or the ones I've seen quite a bit of lately where the legs are spread apart like the guy is going for a pap smear.
I wouldn't mind a bike but problem here is that it's too hot for 8 months. Most of the year you'd be drenched in sweat by the time you arrived anywhere. You really only see a lot of bikes on the road Feb/Mar and Oct/early Nov here.
The bike thing really is a cruising in the sun thing or being a lunatic through traffic thing. I really can't see it being terribly comfortable over any sort of real distance so its a in the wind thing, get away from the wife thing and buying into a reality tv lifestyle midlife crisis thing. all the young lads who start off on bikes going to work etc know a good few mates who ended up as donors.
well boomotherfuckinghoo car and walking are really the best modes or transport from a comfort/perspiration factor, obviously car not good for environment and congestion with a pushbike as well you end up sweating and smelling so if you've got a meeting to go to that's never a good look, I'd cycle more as work commute if that wasn't the case and if it was only shorter journeys I had to make but I'd have to be leaving at like 3am and cycling for 6 hours or something some days plus there's more storage in the van
Saw someone today that had legs like that. Assumed he was just riding it awkwardly, they were really high up, looked uncomfortable.
I started when I was 18, riding to work from Walton to Speke because the buses were chronic and as an apprentice I had no chance of affording a car. I gave it up as a bad job sometime in my 30's. Had a few hairy moments, but no riders I knew ever had a fatal accident or life-changing injury, thankfully.
Nice touch from my garage ... sent me a video report of the check-up on my car to my phone, pretty awesomes
my dealership (VW) will stream the service told em not to bother as i have never even opened the bonnet of my Polo - in fact thinking about it i would need to check in the handbook to find out how to
5 bob for the lightbulb. 15 bob for the labour. 80 bob for the broadband usage and maintenance on the streaming platform.
lucky then.... in my day i knew quite a few in rag order. Maybe now they've given women the vote AND allowed the to drive they just knock down more?
