Morning all ... good three points earned in atrocious conditions, rain made the contest more about desire than quality, Leeds stepped up ... Monk also used this formation at Sheff Weds, so it looks the way forward with two proper wide men ... Becchio profited hugely from having Beckford next to him scaring the bejesus out of defenders, and that helped a lot, along with Snoddy's creativity ... we need something at Cardiff, but it will be tough for sure ... let's see if this team of ours is starting to believe Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Yea it doesn't look good. I think a win against anyone regardless of their form or position in the table can breed confidence. Hopefully it does and we see a better performance against Cardiff. It's a winnable game too and 2 wins on the trot could kickstart our season.
Should have read or let me reword it... You commented in the same thread as I in regards to LL claims that.....
Wasn't at Sheff Wed so can't be sure of the formation. Last night seemed different though. A midfield 3 in a triangle formation. Bridgett and O'Kane with Hernandez at the point of the triangle. All rotated at some point but that was the basic set up. I don't see how we could have played that at Sheff Wed as Antonsson would have had to be play the Hernandez role. Just interested as to know as it seemed we finally had the shape right last night. Against Birmingham and Fulham we were constantly out passed in midfield because we didn't have a 3 in there. Also we couldn't press their back four because it left massive holes in the middle. Last night Sacko and Dallas go up with Antonsson to press and our full backs join the 3 in midfield to complete the press. Much better in my opinion.
Good to hear from you lads that were there. I wish it was against better opposition to better assess the midfield. Still, well soon know
I'm under no disillusions, we aren't going anywhere this season, my worst fears have been confirmed (in my mind) Monk is no good. My point is play yesterday's formation for 30 games, play Antonnson or Roofe or Wood as striker, Wood will get more goals than the other two. Get the fans behind Wood instead of blaming him for every nil score line and he will get a few more and maybe the one that keeps us out the bottom three Take a look at the highlights posted by LL Antonnson and Sacko at the end, if Wood missed those would we be making an issue of it?
I truly believe this formation and these players under Evans would have got gradually better and we would be higher up the table. Evans was far quicker at spotting problems and dropping a player, his substitutions were better too. Last nights team and set up us virtually the one we need to stick with, if we do I believe we will see progress
I'm being selective but to keep my sanity: we are 2 games into the new season and we have 2 great wins. We despatched the wendies with a 4 3 2 1 formation and have done the same against Blackburn. We will get better as games pile up so feeling confident now. The rest was **** and **** formation and shyte heart. new start from now and hoping for a good run of keeping this 100% record going
Completely agree Jammy. You could argue, that some flexibility and willingness to compromise is a good trait. You could even argue that maybe he thought, 'the way i want to work won't cut it in the championship we've these players at the moment'. But.... he likes to talk about identity and his style of play. You don't ditch that in game 1, watch the 'compromise' fail repeatedly and then go back to your original philosophy in game 7. Not if you have the courage of your convictions. How many top managers ditch their style of play because their side took a beating? On the plus side, he took the rap for it and admitted it. I wonder how much the difference is less about formation and more about having a solid looking centre half partnership and a more experienced centre midfield partnership in front of them. Early days to assess that.
Apologies for my Gloryest negative ramblings......if I mixed a bit of Boggers and a bit of Glory together, I may get the right balance
Maybe and I could be wrong, the fans aren't getting at the two lads you mentioned because they are relatively newbies still and they didn't cost 3 million. Some supporters and this is again an opinion, may also feel that the 3 million could have been spent on a better striker. The petulant cupping his ears(regardless of the flak) after scoring won't help the mood of some supporters, especially if he has a few more bad games.
Sacko looks very comfortable on the ball, and really picked out Wood well... Unlike most Leeds players, we didn't pinick when inside the box.
