A slightly scary thought, but he's never going to leave so it wouldn't surprise me!

Eh, how the hell is Ameobi African, He was born and bred in Newcastle was he not. If you mean first black manager then that is Paul Ince if memory serves.

Ameobi was born in Nigeria and now he has decided to play for them. He might have spent most of his life here but he is now African.

Really, didn't know that. I thought Nigeria were a decent side too, they have waited a while before calling him haven't they.

They have been, but after their performance last summer they've been desperate for change and looking to ditch the dead wood. I always thought it was ridiculous FIFA was going to suspend their eligibility for international play if their president suspended the national team...like schools suspending students for skipping class.

Kanu retired, Utaka was in the Championship until yesterday, Yakubu was out of form and now in the Championship, Martins was not in good form at Wolfsburg and Obinna is inconsistent at West Ham. Odemwingie has done at West Brom now. There are a few other Nigerian strikers but I'm not sure how they are getting on.

Scares me to think that might be true... The guy just will not leave. Ever. He still believes in his mind he will reach his "potential" soon. Earth to Shola, that ship has sailed! You're now, somehow, due a testimonial for your years of giving away the ball, tripping over the ball, first touches that end up in row Z, casually strolling around the pitch, and general dribbling.

Funny, I never really think of Shola as African. Nigerian parents sure but he'll always be a geordie in my eyes.

I read a rumour that Birmingham were going to bid £1.5M for him. It wouldn't be right seeing Ameobi in anything but black and white, I mean, I don't think he even has the heart to score for anyone except his beloved Toon, look what happened at Stoke!
