Was it discussed earlier that the two female presenters have decided to quit the programme. Channel 4 have bought a lemon. Never watched it myself.
As soon as I heard the news I had to rush off and bake a wedding cake to overcome the trauma. It was so bad that even the wedding cake was in tiers
Is it 100% definite its going? Or is it the lovable old beeb down on its ratings and is using this to increase them. And then miraculously there is a u turn and it stays on the beeb.
Down on it's ratings? It's the most watched thing on UK TV by a mile, a quarter of the population watch the ****ing thing. That's why Channel 4 just paid £75m for it.
Channel 4 have paid the production company for the concept and name. They havent paid for the judges or presenters. I really wouldnt be surprised in the slightest if Berry and Hollywood follow suit and then - lo and behold - a new baking programme 'Baking the British Way', a knockout competition of amateur bakers in a tent starring Mel and Sue and the aforementioned judges, is launched on BBC1...
Thats not true at all, losing Top Gear lost them £40 million a year. Most of their revenue comes from licence fees, this is topped up by commercial businesses and the government, but they still make £50-£100 million from overseas broadcasting, although now Top Gear and the Bake Off have gone I imagine thats significantly less.
Fair enough it isn't something I know much about (clearly) but I still stand by my point that it seems odd that they put all the power in the hands of a production company when they could take ownership of the show themselves instead
