Saw the other day that Swansea were being linked with David Trezeguet who is now out of contract.

Was regarded as one of the top strikers in Europe just a few seasons ago and has a goal record which speaks for itself. Maybe getting on a bit but surely worth a punt on a short term contract? Certainly better than anything we've got and anyone i've heard us realistically linked with this summer...

Trezuguet was always the player that I'd hoped Wenger would pair up with Henry. But that statement alone tells you how long ago that was. He's 33 now and i don't think he's up to the rigors of the premier league. Last I'd read, he was desperate for a move back to France, but it seems that Swansea might be in talks with him.

A great player in his day, but I don't really think he'd add what Spurs need.

He played 30 games in his unusual move to the yoyo spanish outfit Hercules, all league games too, wasn't used in cup games. I don't know if this was caused by injury or just not selected. 12 goals though, 1 every 2.5 games in La Liga isn't shabby, but he'll be 34 in October, so I too don't think there's a full PL season in him, but he'd be handy in some games without doubt, always scored well in Europe too. No harm for free, he's already earnt his money, and a no-brainer over Keane...if only he'd bloody well go!

I'd agree with that. We really don't need any more clapped out stars, looking to top up their pension pots.

Wasn't it your club that took on, and idolised Henrik Larsson a few seasons ago?

I seem to remember you wanted him for longer but couldn't because the Swedish league was restarting.

Plus he was 2-3 years older than Trezeguet is now, reckon he'd be worth a one year contract just to see how it goes. We brought Sheringham back at the age of 35, and Klinsmann back at 33, they both did a decent job.

I will not attend White Hart Lane this season if Trezeguet is our only new striker signed.

    He's been ****, too.

Trezeguet would probably be a good signing for a team that plays 4-4-2 and has some youngsters that could learn from him.
Maybe Sunderland, where he could form a partnership with Gyan and the younger pairing of Wickham and Campbell could work as understudies?

Have to agree with our guest here. Owen was one of the best strikers our country has produced over the last 25 years or so. Injuries robbed him of the electric pace that was his main weapon. He may not be what he once was, but he still knows where the goal is.
Personally, the only "aged" striker I can think of that I would take, would be Drogba. Trezuguet has never played in the Premiership, who knows if he would cope, now.

The speed Swansea distanced themselves from reports linking them to Trezeguet says a lot - mainly about his wage demands, but also you have to question if he'd be a worthwhile investment.

He would be if he could score 15-20 goals in a season, which is a lot more than any of the current dead wood managed last year.

Luke - Yes he has been released, because they were relegated. And yes, we obviously would like a mid 20's striker. Trezeguet scored more goals in La Liga, in less games at 32, in a terrible side, than Owen did over the same period of time but at his peak, with a perennial title contender.

I should clarify my comment for those that don't seem to understand "a no-brainer over Keane". I am not suggesting for one minute he'd be our new main man, he's just a better impact back up than RK. Also PNP has touched on the subject of our younger players learning from him in Europe, he has a good european scoring record, so use him in the cups. All this for nothing! he won't be expecting stupid wages either I would have thought.

hbic, there's nothing on google to suggest disinterest from Swansea, what led you to say that? <ok>

    Cheers Luke. <ok>

On Owen, the age he became a 'hasbeen' isn't really the thing here, that varies from player to player, was Giggs a hasbeen at 33?...no.

I seem to have to keep re-iterating I do not see him as our 'new' striker, but, for nothing, he's a vast improvement on Keane, ( ask Wet Spam how his PL experience helped them!) and would be useful in Europe with our younger/fringe playersthis season, I'm sure even Pav and JD would learn a thing or two from him.
