Within reason. I think it's fair to get frustrated and annoyed if we fail to beat Watford, Sunderland and Swansea at home (if we don't win on Sunday).
I have a lingering undercurrent of "okay, show me what you can do" rather than a full blown dose of the concerns.
I agree with that completely. I don't know why people seem to be assuming I have no patience or understanding though!
Tom has liked your post, which is ironic. He has Puel sacked already My point is that it's great to discuss all our problems, but if you step back and read the forum as I did for a week, you'll see that most stuff is worrying or pointing out our problems and what we didn't do or should have done.... There's still lots of positive stuff and even if people can't see that, there hasn't been many posts saying, "Hey, new manager, lost some key players again, but let's give them a chance and see what happens over the next three months"... So what if we finish bottom half for one season. You and I know that people are going to lose their **** if we don't finish top 8. Now if you want an "I told you so," that's something I've been saying for three seasons. My view is simple really: back the team, give them the time to do what they need to do. Happy to discuss what is not looking so good, but also what is looking good and how things aren't really that much different to he last three seasons. Not really.
Yeah same, must be at least 10 sets of fans feeling the same as us though, we are getting there. Tadic is going to be the man this season.
Unfortunately, I really don't think Tadic suits being a number 10. The sooner we use him on the left wing, the sooner we will be back to our best IMO. I really don't think we have the personnel to play such a fluid system going forward. Long was at left back whilst Tadic/Redmond alternated as target men for large portions of the second half. It just looked weird to me. I'm hoping I eat my words, and that Puel will prove to be a tactical genius. But if he persists with this system, I'm convinced we will continue to underperform.
I rest my case your honour. Tom, just step back for one moment and take the helicopter view. Things are very new and changing at the club. Perhaps we should have played City and Chelsea first at home... This sort of thing happens. There is no "not good enough" about it. You could say, "Not ideal" and that would work. It probably wasn't acceptable that Arsenal lost 4-0 at St Mary's last season, but these things happen in sport and football. Guess what? They are footballers and human beings... Just like referees. I don't understand why you see things so exacting and black and white all the time, with zero understanding.
Not really sure what people expect with a new manager and losing basically our only attacking threats in the summer. Don't say this too loudly but look at any similar sized team that has been in the Europa and look at their league form, we are most likely going to be inconsistent as **** this year, our squad isn't any better/is worse than 10/11 other sides in the division so people expecting top 10 are going to be disappointed in my view
Fair points. On ability I think Tadic is as good as Mane, and if he improves on last season, then I might start feeling hot and flustered. Reopening old debates maybe but I thought the tactics in the first half (particularly) were miles better. Clasie and Romeu worked well. Not genius level and it might not work when we need to win at home. But I think things will settle down soon and we will start to look decent. Long term I would still like to see one main striker (Austin) with Tadic, Boufal, Redmond behind when we are really purring.
I'm not sure how much of that is a general post or towards me in particular as I agree with a lot of it!! For example I've also been saying for a while that people will lose their **** with a bottom half finish. The funny thing is I often find it's the same fans who claim that United (eg) fans are arrogant for thinking that they have a divine right for the top 4, that seem to think we have a divine right to be top 10. Now that's irony As for the negativity around the time of your break I can only speak for myself but I made myself wait until the end of the window then had a 2 day vent because I was very disappointed. The fact I was on nights contributed as well as I was bored ****less so was posting more than normal I'm also happy to discusd both good and bad I just think it's fair to say there's more bad than good at the moment? Which is being reflected in the current tone of the forum. Either way I can't ****ing wait till Thursday and I'm hoping that we start to score more freely and we march on from there. Maybe even if traffic permits we might meet up on the night and discuss this all there
Yeah and 3 home games is enough to get an idea of what's going on. A manager who fails to see that the diamond doesn't work, a lack of a goalscorer and in the bottom 3. If we don't beat Swansea and Puel doesn't change things then I don't know what the hell he is thinking. And yes, I would rather we played City, Chelsea etc at home first so we don't drop stupid points against teams we should be beating.
