Meh, who cares really but were already into the part of the season of must win games, talk of managers being dumped, probably with justification and it's not mid September. Please feel free to edit with some positive stuff as the day progresses. Who knows, trump might be announced later in the day as the new owner Doc Well-Known Member please log in to view this image Elland has to work so here we go: Disaster result and disaster performance against the dog botherers. Is Wood being unfairly picked on or doesnt he get the service. Should Monk be sacked or given more time Monk signings are in the main good or bad For me we should have concentrated on getting a top striker in on loan. We need goals and any ambitions we had mean we need goals. I dont think Wood scores if he has time to think about it. He gets in good positions and scores when its instinct, but we dont get it into him enough. Crouch for me would have been ideal and yes expensive paying his wages, but he will never play in the prem again and knows his limits. One season with us would see him score kloads and help Wood.
Regardless of Monk's mistakes so far sacking him will only make it worse. Managers need to be appointed and need to have a decent amount of time before condemning them imo. Can't just keep throwing em away after a few games of bad results. Never gonna get any progression that way. If he should've been appointed in the first place is a different discussion entirely. It's not like Cellino made a hasty appointment, he took his time so now he needs to stand by him.
Morning Josh. I tend to agree but it's a bit worrying that on Saturday, we seemed to have gone right back to where we started. If there was a little progress in each game, it would be easier to defend him. Let's face it, if he can't cobble together a team to beat a winless Blackburn at Elland Road, it won't look good
Agreed, Josh, unless he continues to make the same mistakes time after time without acknowledging it's a mistake. For example, persisting with Green. If Green plays tomorrow night & has another stinker, I think that alone would be justification for his dismissal. Only Monk thinks that Green should be first choice. He has 4 keepers to choose from, and he picks everyone's 4th choice - and the only reason can be that he signed him. It's not because he merits selection.
Can someone pull up one of my posts after the Birmingham game. Hate to say I told you so....... But I did.
Too soon to sack Monk Missing link is a good striker and I believe Wood would be better learning how to score when he has time to think, as he bottles/fluffs simple chances. There is a reason he went down the pecking order at Leicester and even Nugent was in front of him. Nugent will get game time in the prem but not plenty so would have been good capturing him. Crouch would have been a hero in this league and he accepts he will never play in the prem again on a regular basis. One season investment in paying his wages gets us a lee Chapman type player who gets goals and gets us in the running. Be glad when we know whats happening behind the scenes at the club because something clearly is, and it affected Monk for the interview. I heard Cellino was in the dressing room? Monk needs to play his best players in their best positions fast as what he's putting out at the moment isnt working.
Morning all, nothing to add really to what hasn't been said in the opening few posts. I can understand we need to break this constant sacking of coaches but for me it should have stopped one coach prior to Monk As for Wood he isn't getting enough service and how many goals has the rest of the team put in? We're playing 4-4-2 so why not as critical on Antonnson
The last time we played like this was under Redders. hardly any shots on goal and hardly any chances created. I think Monk is in a different league to Redders, so what happened. Why that performance, why that team, why those tactics, why those substitutions. What happened behind the scenes and can Monk put it right
But he doesn't get into goal scoring spaces, Wood misses a few but he gets in the right positions. We need better I agree but that's not happening without £10m+?
Normally I would point a finger at Cellino and question his involvement. However, Cellino seemed to give Monk a free roll in who joined, Cellino hates 4-4-2 Hope I'm wrong mate but I believe you are seriously over estimating Monks ability. I believe he is worse than Redfearn, Rosler, Evans and even McD
Mornin Ristac. Thats the key. You dont get quality strikers for 3m or less and especially ones nobody else was trying to sign
In general, Thing with new coaches not performing, whoever they are, is it becomes a catch 22 situation. Our situation says, do we fix it early, or do we allow it to stay broken hoping it'll fix itself.........emphasis on the word hope. Fixing it early sounds like the right thing to do, thus allowing another coach time to drag our sorry arses up the league ladder. Down side is, he has Monks 10 or 11 players still at Leeds which he is going to have too inspire and encourage. Allowing it to stay broken hoping it'll fix itself is a bigger risk, cos it might not fix itself and more games and time will have passed us by. Monk didn't do himself any favours by what he said during pope's interview, by now nearly every Leeds fan around world will be aware of his attitude and what he said; one of those opinions he said he doesn't listen to, are the fans. Right now, and after just 6 games, Monk seems to have divided the fans by whatever percentage and it's going to take a few wins on trot to get'em all back on side, even then there'll still be some skeptics. IMO, we have 2 weak links, Green in goal and Wood up front, ironically, they're at both ends of the pitch. I think everyone now sees Green as a big liability for obvious reasons, except Monk, and Wood has been here long enough to be poppin'em in on a regular basis, but he hasn't, and isn't. I know comparisons have been made with Antonsson not scoring too, difference is, the fans see Antonsson running round and putting in a physical shift, which is why Antonsson has a lot of fans onside. I think they see Antonsson as the new kid on block and still finding his feet in English football and the Championship, where as Wood has been here long enough. Should Antonsson not deliver enough goals, the fans will also turn on him in due time. While I've mentioned 2 weak links, we also have a midfield who do not look for, or create those defence splitting through passes for the strikers to run on too, yet teams who play against us seem to manage it. On the games I've watched, I've seen Antonsson busting a blood vessel hoping, and waiting for the through passes. One positive I take from the Udders game is, the defence were doing their job and it was only 1 goal scored against us, a goal that the defence are not to blame for imo. Monk came highly regarded and recommended, he was once billed as a future England manager, many other managers/coaches and ex footballers have talked him up big time, he's an ex Prem manager, yet he hasn't delivered as of yet. Fans were calling for a coach like Monk, their wish was granted, the other wishes and expectations are not coming to fruition at moment; the fans are feeling frustrated and disappointed, they can see where the problems lay, but the coach it seems cannot. Cellino is not to blame, he backed Monk in every department, which the fans were also calling for; it's up to the manager/coach to do his job properly. So, where do we go? Do we fix it early leaving time for another coach to drag us up ladder or, Do we leave it broken and hope it fixes itself?
Morning Everyone, Heard from a poster that Cellino went into the dressing room after the game to give the players what for.. TBH, can't blame him.... Not sure on Monks substitutions. On the hour mark, he takes off Antonsson, and brings on Doukara. Why not take off Wood? Does Wood have a clause in his contract, that he has to start every game? GM, asked by @APOPEY if he and MC are okay: "I'm brilliant. Fine." But is relationship with MC okay: "I think the interview is done." Monk, told by Adam Pope that he doesn't speak to us so can't ask him his thoughts: "Well then there you go." Monk to Adam Pope, asked what MC's opinion was of his work so far: "That's none of your business. You have to ask the man himself" All I can say is 'Meeeoooooowww'...
