Has always seemed a strange one, Costa just scoring for Chelsea with an overhead kick which nearly took Kyle Naughton's head off, but the goal stood. If a players boot is high anywhere else on the pitch it's dangerous play.

Once had a barny about this, with a ref; he reported me to the FA, they did FA and I still give him a ribbing when I see him. We nicknamed him Popeye, he was bogeyed, bandy and a good laugh in the pub after - bless him he always came back and took any flak.

Exactly the same in the Villa / Forest game earlier.. Gestede hooked the ball in above his shoulder and kicked the guy in the head on his follow through,.

Actually really funny this game. About 2 minutes before Forest equalised. Villas left back Sissoko and Forests Pereira had a set two. As the ref was booking them Pereira stood with his hands behind his back glaring at Sissoko like a fighter literally nose to nose ignoring the lecture. Ref didn't know what the hell to do.

Remember Arron McLean doing a fantastic overhead kick in our box to clear the ball, no one anywhere near him, ref gave them a pen for dangerous play.

Yeah, against Ipswich. We threw away a 2-0 lead if I recall.

you have to remember that most referees have the intelligence and self-awareness of a bent rusty nail.

They'll be banning headers next or making players wear helmets.

I personally don't think they should be stopped, but there has to be consistency all over the pitch.

Ray Henderson was a right winger for City in the Chilton/Wagstaff era which also included Ken Houghton and Ian Butler. I think they scored 107 goals in the season we were Div 3 champions ... heady days.

It's one of those massive grey areas in football. Another is the Bravo incident in the Manchester derby. He slid in a bit out of control; anywhere else on the pitch it would be a definite foul and probably a card, maybe even red. But because he's the goalie and it was in the box and refs are terrified of giving penalties in unusual circumstances, it was ignored.

There seams to be more stoppages of play for head injuries than ever, I put it down to the fact that the ref has to stop play right away for an head injury, it amazing, how many times a attacking player at corners goes down with a head injury(only for the replay to show it was nowhere near the players head) , after the defending team win the ball and breaks to counter attacks. maybe im just being cynical, but just feel that the cheats in the game are getting away with it and it needs sorting, a head injury is a serious matter, not something for a cheat to use for his own ends.

Correct it's a cheats charter. As is kicking the ball in touch when a player is down injured.

That's been an issue for ages. I remember QPR in 2007 were particularly ridiculous in that game where Elliott came off the bench and scored two to win us the game from 1-0 down late on. They were constantly having head injuries whenever we went forward and the ref was obliged to stop the game every time. It was absurd.

I actually thought Hernandez could have taken Diomande's foot clean off when we played you earlier in the season. Very, very dangerous.

The goal should have been disallowed <whistle>

Didn't Sol Campbell 'foul' John Terry in the 2004 Euros?
