A few parts to this one. Sorry. 1. The best overall, fully complete SAFC performance? 2. The best individual performance by an SAFC player? 3 and 4. Same as above but by the opposition?
Good shout. For individual I'm tempted to say Mackembauer last season vs. Man City. Huge game, under immense pressure, think it was shortly after his nightmare against Spurs, and he absolutely bossed it. Nothing got through him all game, he was ****ing everywhere. We lost 1-0 through an unlucky deflection off a cross, but how we didn't win that game I'll never know.
I remember Claudio Reyna had a phenomenal game for us once, can't remember who it was against though. Shame we didn't keep him longer, I liked him a lot.
The greatest performance from any individual player I've seen is Roy Keane away to Juve in the CL semi in 1999.
by far the best performance ever was when GILL stood in for his mate at the mortuary, good lad that he is always helps a mate, but as luck would have it there was a coach crash that week end involving 54 beauty queens ,who would not say no, still warm all he had to do was phone his mates for the barby and beers party on
Most complete performance by team was Chelsea 4-1. By an individual I think Don Hutch in a win away to West Ham, completely controlled game and scored a trademark cheeky quick free kick, he was off the scale that day.
I haven't decided on a complete team performance as of yet. But for a complete individual performance you can't look too far past Gary Rowell's hat-trick against the scum at Sid James park.
Hamann's contribution to that game is massively overlooked, he come on at HT and the game was flipped on it's head but 'fairytale' Shteeevie had to get all the credit.
Seems everyone is talking a load of ****e So Why not me Kevin arnott ran the show against Nottingham Forrest sometime in the 70s Inthe first half we were leading two nil Come the second half we lost three two Superb first half by arnott
When we were promoted under Mick McCarthy, Julio Arca was amazing. I went to loads of away games that season and I'm not sure but I think it was away to Wimbledon and he pretty much ran the game. From left back.
Just read that today in 1953 sunderland hammered arsenal 7-1. Trevor Ford getting 3. Now that sounds impressive. A quick look at the table from that season. Completly different top 3 and Liverpool bottom. http://www.thestatcat.co.uk/Season.aspx?SeasonID=75
Agreed mate and another cracking player, but Gerrard was captain and did grab goals. Cracking game either way you look at it.
