    Out-spend United.
Its the outspent United thing again.
Man United outspent the entire league up until 2004. They haven't needed to spend heavily since then. There will come a time when they will spend heavily when they have to replace a number of players, ie Evra,Vidic and Ferdinand.
This is something that grinds my gears about Man United fans, they think they are the only club that can spend money. As far as I'm concerned they are the reason the market is inflated.
First club to pay an inflated price for a centre back £29 million for Ferdinand.
First club to pay an inflated price for a midfielder £28 million for Veron.
First club to pay an inflated price for a unproven player £27 million for Rooney.
Not to mention the vastly inflated fees they paid for Carrick £18.6 million,,Hargreaves £17 million, Anderson £25 million, Nani £17.3 million.
And they have the gall to blame City for the crazy market.

I agree they aren't blameless, but i'd say Chelsea were the worst for the sudden massive inflation.

Since when were Real Madrid an English club? Thats whom we were refering to,English clubs and the English top-flight.
I think we've discovered why people call Man United fans thick.
Chelsea were involved in the inflation of players, however United started it off, Chelsea increased it.

It's the game in general, Player's (like houses & Land) will always be needed so prices will always rise. even if you go back to the foundations of football the price has gone up significantly

in 1893 the british transfer record was £100, 12 years later the record was 10x that amount

in 1999 the british transfer record was £22m, in 2011 it has risen to just over 2x that amount

Using average earnings as a gauge Willie Groves (first record transfer player) would cost £43,500 in todays money, which in 1900 is a massive sum

With success comes the ability to spend the rewards, but if I'm not mistaken haven't Liverpool still spent more in total since the start of the Premiership? I think only Chelsea and now City have spent more.

True. In this country I blame Chelsea for the sudden influx.

    I've a question.
I know with inflation prices tended to sometimes double, but how did they quadruple in England in just 4 years?
    £440,000 in 1977 to £1.75 million in 1981?

Well it all counts realy. Clubs in Italy and Spain were doing it way before us. We compete now as a result of doing it as well in my opinion.

due to the champions league we are still kinda competing with real/milan/barca, so if they begin to inflate prices it's hard to get players from the countries with inflated prices.
Say Real bought someone from atletico for £20mil, who would only be worth £15mil in england and the United or Pool want to buy someone from there aswell, atletico will only accept the inflated prices.

Man United were successful whilst being the biggest spenders?
Not between 1981-1991 when they outspent the whole of England, they weren't successful.
In 1981,Liverpool sold 3 players to fund their move for Mark Lawrenson...Man United spent £1.75 million on Bryan Robson thats not mentioning the money they spent on Frank Stapleton from Arsenal and Robsons West Brom team-mate Remi Moses who Big Fat Ron also signed.
