With all the hype about the Manc and Old Firm derbies thought we could have a discussion about peoples favourite derbies to watch.

Now obviously everyone is going to think that their one is the best (if your a local fan anyway ;) )...

So what's your favourite derbies to watch apart from your own and why? And also make the case for your one too... if you have one (sorry Chelsea fans! <whistle> )

Ones I think are overrated are the Manc one cos it's only big cos City got oil money, and most United fans still hate Liverpool & Leeds more. Also think West Ham & Millwall is overrated, all violence and not a lot else to it, I blame ****ty films like green street for overhyping that one.

Ones I like are Merseyside for 2 reasons. The first is that you often see opposite fans sitting together and another is that it's always blood and thunder proper old school English football, the game has the most red cards in PL era I believe.

I like the NLD derby as although it's not the most fierce it's generally a good game, compared to a lot of these games which are drab because of teams too scared to make a mistake. The NE derby is the opposite, generally low on quality but passionate as **** and is a civiv rivalry which reminds me of ours...

On from that I'd compare our derby with Pompey with games such as the NE derby, Cardiff v Swansea, Blackburn Burnley & Forest Derby. Derbies from different towns/cities but fierce as ****.

The thing with Saints Pompey is we haven't played each other much compared to say NE & East Midlands. Throughout history it's generally been that when one team is doing well the other is struggling. The fact that it can build up for years before a game makes it more meaningful and passionate imo. It's very much a civic rivalry too with even non football fans having a strong dislike for the other City.

So that's my lot feel free to disagree if you want and give your own...

Trust you to give a non serious response to an actual football thread <ok>

Though I appreciate it ended up a bit longer than I intended as I'm a bit messy right now <laugh>

We have 3 ... Forest, Derby and Cov ... the intensity tends to be determined by what part of Leicestershire you come from ...

... that said each of them probably doesn't see us as the most intense rivalry ... always feisty affairs as is Villa for that matter ...rather surreal that none of them are now in the Premier league ...we have spent most of my lifetime in their shadow .... perhaps only Spurs fans have suffered more ... perhaps I should be more sympathetic to the whingey cnuts? ... :)

The thing is with yours is I wouldn't really class any of them as 'proper' rivalries, as like you say none of them would consider you their main rivals.

If I had to say the main one for you I would say Cov, is that right?

You're in the position of having a lot of local games but none with the passion of a proper derby. We're the opposite, there's only one south coast derby, as much as Bournemouth try to claim otherwise.

I prefer it that way tbh... one proper derby compared to a lot of local games with not as much meaning.

... coming from the inner City it was always Forest ... for those from Hinckley and Nuneaton. (in Warwickshire but we have always had great support there) it's all about Cov ...

Fair enough I suppose with your sort of area and without 1 'traditional' rivalry a lot will depend on when you were born so who've you seen your team play most etc.

But with Forest would you say it's a bit of a one sided rivalry? Cos they've got Derby who's their main one so it means a lot more to you than them?

Again like us and Bournemouth they try to make it into a big derby and rivalry, whereas we all quite like Bournemouth and would like to see them do well, so it's a bit one sided.

What other derby games do you enjoy?

Forest certainly see Derby as bigger rivals ... but after we win the Champions League? ... who knows? ... :)

The NE derby is just manic. Some bad blood there.

The mags get that upset they even punch horses<laugh>

The celtic v rangers revolves to much around religon.

In the context of how big the clubs are. The manc game is pretty huge.

I always knew a lot more Forest fans so see them as more of a rival than Derby who I generally wish well.

Living in Sheffield now I think due to Utd and Weds underperforming in recent years this one is under rated. In terms of passion (and pure violence) it is right up there. On a derby day getting clear of the city is a good idea!

I personally prefer the United/Liverpool games more than those against City.

There was a period about 10-20 years ago when I was absolutely addicted to El-Classico and the local Madrid derbies as well. But that changed about 4 years ago when they played each other about 50 times every season which really took the shine off it. ****ing cynical commercial rinsing imo.

Milan v Inter back in the day was worth watching. Sadly the quality just isnt there anymore.

I was about to the similar. I prefer Liverpool/Man Utd games to the Liverpool/Everton matches. But then, I'm not local either so...

I did think Jose would play cautious as he did with us but that's suicide out there. You can't do that against a team with that sort of movement.
