Just as I was going to bed last night I had a last look round the news and on the Beeb website there was breaking news that there had been a small earthquake near North Korea's nuclear test site. I was that cynical about it I hmph'ed, in an earthquake, my arse, type of way, and went to bed, knowing full well they'd done another nuclear test. NK is getting rather naughty.
Just made a rather nice swap. Fixed a friend's rather nice but utterly errant Toshiba laptop [I normally do this sort of thing for nothing] and he handed me a litre of decent whisky. Could have set a precedent. That might be the friendly charge from now on.
Just remember to fix the 'puter before testing the whisky. Sadly whoever lumped the latest Win10 update on my media PC may have done it in the reverse manner as I've lost the useful ability to move my mouse cursor. Ho Hum.
http://news.sky.com/story/mattress-shop-sparks-fury-with-disgusting-twin-towers-advert-10570794 American advert causing offence. A mattress shop launched a sale to coincide with the anniversary of the twin tower tragedy...it finishes with two employees falling backwards and knocking over two stacks of mattresses. I'm one of the first to say that some can be oversensitive where no offence was meant, but how could any American company think this wouldn't offend people.
Think it's different for a comedian though whos job is to entertain, make people laugh and to an extent, shock people. Totally different to an advert imo. You wouldn't see an advert making jokes about nonces etc.
My computer isn't savvy. It has been trying to load an update for 6 months and fails every time. Isn't the definition of stupid the act of doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome. Dumb machine.
Re-reading this not sure if it's clear that I think the advert is disgraceful, was just responding to RJ saying about comedians.
I'll give you a small revelation. All computers are stupid. They merely do what they are programmed to do, whether that be well programmed or badly. But there is always a reason why they do what they do. I'm paid to find out what that is. It's a living.
Savvyish. I've actually re-installed Win7, which it was before the 'free' upgrade, using the wonderful GParted. Takes about 15mins from my backup. Even rolling back updates without use of a mouse is more effort than this lazy bugger will expend. A great shame really as Win10 is not a bad OS if you forgive it's control freak attitude to updates and installed/installing apps. My media PC is dual boot with Linux anyway, if it wasn't for the needed ability to play some Windows only Steam games and Fallout 3 with the nipper I'd stick with Linux only. Silver lining though, reminded me why I don't miss that Monday am at work switching on the PC to check emails before zooming off for an urgent appointment only to see the "updates being installed" message.
An American primary school teacher, in Miami, is suing the county school board for "race and national origin" discrimination. Her claim is that non Hispanics, like her, are now in a minority, and her application to teach children Spanish should have been looked at more favourably. What she fails to consider is that her inability to speak Spanish, just might have had something to do with her failure to get the job.
I have 3 PCs at home, all with Win10 on them now. My edition of Linux Mint is relegated to a test PC. I find that I have fewer issues with 10 than I had with almost any edition of Windows, save for XP Professional. It doesn't look as good as Win7 but it's a damn sight quicker on the same kit and that's the bottom line in the end.
I met a German bloke who never bought more than a single mug of beer at the bar, tight bugger. Think his name was Einstein.
