The day that rockets MINDING to favoritism for the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe after her blistering performance in the Irish Champion Stakes (I hope anyway <laugh>)

Torrential rain most of the day here and high winds. Race is bound to cut up, excuse the pun.

I don't think too many of them will mind it if its a bit soft. I think its supposed to be dry tomorrow so it could be something like yielding.

    St Leger.

18mm of rain overnight at Doncaster is expected. St Leger to be run on soft ground.

Looks a really poor race beyond the first two in the betting and Gosden knows what's occurring (Barney) in this race.

However let's have some fun with THE TARTAN SPARTAN 100/1

Outpaced at Ascot behind Sword Fighter but came home really well final furlong. Iv been hoping for rain to bring a massive outsider into play given how **** the race is and IF this one gets an aggressive ride I can see him placing here.

Will relish conditions and a stamina Sapper of a race.

(Disclaimer: *Could be stone last and still running at about 6pm*)

If it stays at 3 places on offer then I'm taking my chance with Harrison @ 80/1 ew in the ledger

Surely guys SWORD FIGHTER should be the EW call in the St Leger, a proven stayer and a proven mud lark!

So apparantly no rain materialised- they had just 1mm. Talk about forecast!! Absolute nonsense.

Now I look very stupid haha. (Even more so than usual).

Hopefully they will all stand their ground in the Irish Champion Stakes - is this the first Group 1 of the season which is actually worthy of its status? A superb line up and I will be hoping Minding runs and wins.

    Great to see Rangers back.

Hope you make it a cracker and give Mayor Quimbey and his 'Bhoys'something to think about.

    What price a Barton red?!

I'd be shocked if Big Time doesn't batter them today based on the last run and choice of jockey. You don't send horses to Ireland and jock up a good claimer if you don't intend to pick up the spoils.

This weekend’s racing is a perfect illustration of the mediocrity of the 2016 Classic generation. The few good ones are at Leopardstown, so Doncaster and Chantilly look very much the under cards.

With Ballydoyle having apparently chased off most of the competition (nothing won by horses standing in their boxes on a Saturday), the St Leger is a complete non event. The top three on the card are all held on form lines by Idaho, so are surely re-opposing in case the favourite fails to stay – happened to Camelot. Moderate Sword Fighter finished ahead of The Tartan Spartan last time, Ormito needs to make a huge step up on his latest effort at Newbury and Ventura Storm similarly has plenty to find after a Group 3 win in France. Muntahaa could try to steal this from the front, as John Gosden’s grey may gamble on making this a test of stamina if Hanagan can judge the fractions correctly.

Much of the form in the Doncaster 4:20 comes from small fields and may turn out not to be reliable as The Queen’s horse Maths Prize was odds-on winner of a three runner race last time and Khalidi won a four-runner maiden. But Harbour Master was visually impressive last time at Sandown and the extra furlong should prove no problem for Jamie Osborne’s charge given that he is usually held up and brought late. I picked him before the non-runners, so he is a no bet now at 9/4.

Presumably anything but a facile victory in the Leopardstown 5:05 will eliminate US Army Ranger from Arc reckoning. I do not think that Qemah will have it as easy as the betting would suggest in the Matron Stakes (5:35) as Persuasive is progressing well and nobody knows which Alice Springs and Jet Setting will turn up. If one is prepared to forgive Awtaad his poor showing on fast ground at Goodwood, a return to his earlier form would make him a sound proposition in the 6:10 at around the 2/1 mark with Tribal Beat and Hit It A Bomb the obvious dangers.

The race of the season represents something of a quandary. There are three pounds between the top six in the ratings and the worst horse in the race, pacemaker Ebediyin, is good enough to win a lot of valuable handicaps. So we know they won’t be hanging around and the going could be the critical factor. As they have had rain in Ireland, that is bad news for Highland Reel, New Bay and The Grey Gatsby, all of whom like to hear their hooves rattle. My Dream Boat has not run since his miserable showing in the Eclipse, whilst the winner Hawkbill disappointed on quick ground at York but could return to his previous form back on easier ground. This is the wrong trip for seconditis sufferer Found and, whilst recognising the fantastic season that Jean-Claude Rouget is having, Almanzor has it to do with the front two in the betting: in receipt of the fillies’ allowance, MINDING’s turn of foot will vanquish Derby winner Harzand.
