Its about time we had a thread about 'alternatives to Murdoch' options. I've used Kodi firestick for about a year and seems to be getting less reliable despite me now using lightstream. Anyone come across zgemma?
I used Kodi for games which aren't on live on a Saturday but also Mobdro which is great for Android phones and tablets and which you can put up onto the screen on a smart TV and has all SKY Sports, SKY movies, SKY Channels, BT Sports and a load of American channels.
Little use to non Aussie based City fans but the Optus coverage is quality Every match on demand which is useful for 2am+ kick offs (and they don't tell you the score beforehand) all pre and post match interviews, highlights of every game. Online logins so you can watch the game anywhere I wonder if a mobile phone company would ever bid for the rights in larger populated countries
So obviously not sky hd quality, but any comparison? How is buffering? Do you get the kodi choice of films/ box sets etc? Does it have a easy remote?etc?
I find the quality of the picture as good as normal Sky. There is no buffering, we have fibre broadband but my son and uncle don't and they have no buffering either. We get the exact same choice of programmes as we used to get on Sky, I understand that this will vary depending on where you buy your box from, mine was plug and play installed with all the Sky channels for £65, however I get no box sets but I'd just download those on my PC if I wanted to watch them. The remote is simple to operate.
Daughter number 2 is using kodi preloaded on a fire stick. Watched film there last week, really good and some hd Give her a call, maybe it's down to the setup?
Just in case it's any use to anyone, I use an android box with kodi and I really recommend installing droidmote server on it. It costs a couple of quid but then you can install droidmote client on your phone (for free) which you can them use as a touch pad/remote/game controller - It works on PC too. Just as a further note, you can simply install kodi on Windows, Linux, Mac as well as iOS and Android phones. I'd use sports devil addon as it's always worked for me.
Zgemma and Openbox are satellite receivers. You need a dish and internet connection. Ideal for Sky customers who have a dish already but want to reduce or cancel their sky subscription. The TV signal comes through the dish , the internet connection primary use is to receive the descrambling codes from the dodgy server. If you buy on ebay including the 'gift' it will last for a few months. After the 'gift' stops working you will need to subscribe to a CCCAM server site. Cost is approx £5 month for all SKY channels but not SKY in HD in my experience. Other HD channels work fine. The quality of the picture , freezing etc is purely down to the server site not the box.
Great summary of the Zgemma and Openbox. The company that I got mine from have been around for years and charge £20 a year for full Sky including HD channels and pay per view
sky hd isnt cracked since going off...is available by iptv though if you have a good server look back in amber would appreciate a pm as my better ones have all disappeared.
